I don't think it is inconsiderate. Nobody makes a person go on the internet. It is the chance you take.

I don't think it's rude. I think that a person's FB status is THEIR personal thoughts/feelings at any given moment and they should be allowed to post what they want in their space. If people don't want to see a spoiler, then don't check the FB status updates.

As someone who always read the last page of a book first, that kind of thing wouldnt bother me. But I can see how it might bother some people.

I don't think its inconsiderate. Once its aired...its fair game. If you choose to watch it on DVR - than you need to avoid areas that could possibly contain spoilers.

nope, it's fair game.
Facebook is a live, constantly updating site...i'd EXPECT live updates in statuses!
If it's important to me, I just keep the computer closed until I'm done watching the show. Not too difficult.
i completely agree.

Re: Stolen from another message board I go on - Is posting spoilers as your facebook status rude?
Holy crap, I was just complaining to DH about this the other day. I hate it! I DVR everything and never watch anything on time...which is exactly why I was sure to watch American Idol when it was on live. Amazing Race and Celebrity Apprentice were ruined for me this season because of FB! You watch a show for 12-13 weeks only to have it ruined at the end. It sucks!
ETA: I also think its odd to put something about a tv show in your FB status in the first place, but hey, that's just me

This is how I see things
A spoiler is something you know will happen before it airs that the majority of people don't know, like next week character XX will die.
Once things air the info is not a spolier.
ITA! Once things air its fair game. Once a show airs there are no longer spoilers. Maybe its because I don't use DVR but I really don't see the need to sensor everything b/c someone may have used a DVR. It should be the DVR-ers problem to avoid the news, internet, etc until they watch their show, not mine.

Rude: no Inconciderate: yes
LOTS of people have DVRs and everybody does not watch the night of the show. So yes, it's not really nice to do so.
I avoid all radio stations, news until I watch my shows.

Re: Stolen from another message board I go on - Is posting spoilers as your facebook status rude?
OK - as an avid DVR-user I'm loving the folks who are telling us to "avoid the internet" - and "keep the computer closed"
Seriously?
Explain to me how I do that when I use the web for work and sometimes it's 5-7 days before I can catch up on DVR-ed shows.
For a show like 24 or Lost - I make an effort to stay away from message boards specific to the show. Heck, I stay away from the Celebrity Board here in case someone slips. Mainstream news reported who won Celebrity Apprentice before I saw it, so I had no choice - it happens sometimes.
I'll agree that yes, it's already aired, so it's fair game and it's not a spoiler. But, whether or not it's a spoiler because it already aired is irrelevant. It's called common courtesy.
I have colleagues who watch these shows and if I am nearby when they start talking about an episode I haven't seen, I can excuse myself.
I have no problem with people having conversations on FB about any of the shows, but to post the ending in your status, giving someone who didn't see it little or no chance to get out is rude, whether or not it's fair game.

How would you ever know who watches what when? If you dvr stuff, you have to stay away from everything..tv, radio, internet, etc. Its EVERYWHERE! Thats why I try to make sure I watch them right away because SOMEWHERE along the way, it will be spoiled for me. I dont think its rude and I dont think its something you can control at all. Its what comes along with sites like facebook which we all seem to love on a regular basis. Too much technology isnt always a good thing in my opinion. But its our way of life now and we gotta do what we gotta do.

I DVR everything!! and I find it annoying to post it as your staus on FB. But on here I feel like, Why should someone have to wait to discuss a show that has already aired? because *I* didn't have a chance to watch it?
IMO- its no different then watching a morning talk show and hearing them chat about it. And at least on here, I can choose to read a thread or avoid it, so it doesn't get ruined. Whereas, when I watch the today show, they just begin talking about the show without me knowing in advance, then I get mad.

Ok...but how are people suppose to know you haven't watched it yet?
I'm suppose to not talk about it or post it in my status because you haven't watched it? Why?
I DVR tons of shows - mainly because when theres a baseball game on - DH won't let me change teh channel.
So I tend to watch shows after they have aired.
If I happen to find out the ending or the surprise shocker - oh well, its my own fault for not wacthing it live.
I can't expect people to NOT talk about it anywhere. JMO

Right, but on here, people generally follow common courtesy by putting spoiler in the title of the thread, so you DON'T open the thread if you haven't seen the show. On FB, it's not like you have a warning to not open a thread, it's there on your home page when you log in.

I think its silly, people can discuss and post whatever they like. The world cant stop for a group of people. I am also an avid DVR user who watch greys yesterday. Nothing was ruined for me and I wouldnt be ****** at FB status or message boards if it were.
Its like getting mad at overhearing someone discussing a show or movie out on the street.

The thing is, FB is not the only place you will stumble across this type of information. The winners of shows are usually on the MSN, AOL, Yahoo home page. They are announced on the radio, morning news shows, in the newspapers and so on. Never mind the people that are talking by the water cooler or the three seats over from you on the train to work. Avoiding FB is a piece of cake compared to all that.

How are you supposed to stay off FB for 5-7 days when you use the computer for work? Not sure what you do but even if you are webmarketing, you can avoid your personal FB account & work on your business page, no?
I've had plenty of shows spoiled for me by executing IE - my home page is Yahoo & there were the final results of the Celebrity Apprentice & ANTM. I didn't want Lost spoiled so I stayed up late to watch it once my DH was done watching his games.
Some people use FB statuses to spark a discussion with friends. While I don't use mine like that, I think it's rude to think other people shouldn't change their status because you didn't watch something. If someone intentionally spoils something, then I could see it - but most people are just typing in the moment from what I've seen.

I understand people are excited, or angry about a certain show. But I DVR'ed American Idol the other day, and due to my blackberry, I get notifications on my phone from facebook. Well, as soon as the show ended the phone with crazy with people happy or upset that "ADAM LOST!!!" I didn't really see the need to watch Idol when I got home that night.

Not to get into the nitty gritty of my job - but we use social media tools like Facebook for researching business opportunites and ideas for our clients. We don't have a "business page" per se - so we all use our own accounts. It's not the central part of my job - but it's part of it, and becoming bigger as things like Twitter and FB become more popular.
But that's neither here nor there.
I have NO problem with people discussing shows that I haven't seen, at all, be it on FB, in person, whatever. But, I just think, it's common courtesy to give someone, who may not have seen the show, a chance to leave the conversation or not see it.
But, we can debate this all day - and it won't get us anywhere, so I'll reiterate - it's fair game since it has aired - but I find it inconsiderate. Is it going to ruin my day? No - I have much more important things going on - but I do at people who put endings in their status.
For those that differ in opinion, we can agree to disagree.

I have to say I was a bit bummed when Idol was ruined for me earlier this week because of FB statuses. But I can't expect people to hold back their thoughts/ opinions/excitement/ disappointment on FB on my account. It does make me think to be more thoughtful going forward when I know something *exciting* is going on that people may be waiting to watching.

I don't like it and I have had a show ruined for me because of it, but that is because I choose to watch most of my shows later from Tivo. I have yet to see the season finale of greys and I avoided facebook for days because I knew people would post what happened. It's their right to do so and if I'm that concerned over seeing a spoiler I simply avoid everything that I can.
