elevated liver enzymes?

I had a routine blood test to actually test for anemia and it came back with elevated liver enzymes. The doctor said they were slightly elevated... and wants me to follow up in a month or so

What does this mean?!?! I am a hypocondriach to begin with.. and now I have this looming over my head! Its probably nothing, but I am worried!

Re: elevated liver enzymes?

Lots of things can slightly elevate your liver enzymes. Have you taken any new medicines, vitamins, or herbal remedies? Have you been drinking more alcohol than usual? I woudn't worry too much about it at this point. Chances are its nothing. Once your Dr. repeats it, he should know more. I know its hard, but try not to read too much into it yet! Chat Icon

It could be a list of things. Are you taking any medications?

Re: elevated liver enzymes?

I had a couple of the enzymes elevated after routine blood work and my internist said that slightly elevated is not a concern. I don't remember the exact numbers, but if the cutoff was 15, mine was 20 and my doc said it would be worrisome if were in the 100s or high for a long period of time.

I have had elevated liver enzymes for the past four years and had a baby. I am sure you will be fine. Make sure you follow up on it though.

hope all went well w ur drs appt.

I had elevated liver enzymes as well and I got freaked me out bc liver disease runs in the family. Turns out i had issues with my gallbladder which in turn messed up my liver enzymes.

Good luck - hope all works out!
