Progesterone Level Question

Hi everyone -

Been lurking here for a while and finally screwed up the courage to post. I have a question that I'm looking for opinions on. My DH and I are 6-7 weeks along into our first pregnancy. Have had major fatigue and nearly constant nausea since week 4. Absolutely no spotting or cramping. High levels of stress at work. Had my first OB appt this week (NYC ob, very into doing all the tests) and had my bhcg and progesterone checked. My beta came back high at 19,800 or 98,000 - can't remember which. My progesterone was lower than they want to see at 10.5 (they prefer 15). Naturally I was put on supplementation immediately - with the nausea improving dramatically after supplementation, but the fatigue is worse.

She refused to give me her opinion on miscarriage vs viable pregnancy. I'm going for an u/s later this week (delay is on my end), but was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences in terms of low prog and high bhcg and what the outcome was. Have read that anything above 10 is okay, but have also read it should be above 15 - the scientific literature is sketchy at best.

Thanks in advance for the time/opinions!

Re: Progesterone Level Question

First off, congrats! I haven't had your experience, but I do know that lots of women have low progesterone and go on to have healthy pregnancies, so it definitely doesn't have to mean you are going to miscarry. It sounds like your doc is on top of things and proactive, and your beta was good.

Beyond that, you really just aren't going to know anything until you get a peek at what's going on in there. I know it's hard to wait for that first sono, but try to stay positive and I hope your week goes quickly!

The tiredness and nausea are great signs, though. I have had m/c in the past where that disappeared completely early on- the fact that you feel stinky is actually a great sign!

Re: Progesterone Level Question

i had low progesterone and was on suppositories 3x a day until 12 weeks. when they checked my levels mine were an 8 at 7dpo. my RE wanted to see anything over a 10. Some drs say anything over a 10 is ok if its a non medicated cycle, or want to see it above a 15 if its a medicated cycle (fertility meds)

I think ur levels are ok and with progesterone suppositories u should be fine!

Good luck and congratulations on ur pregnancy!
