Warning vent!!!
Ok, so DH and I invited some of his friends over for Sat night BBQ. Like 3-4 weeks ago, both couples said yes. We asked about getting siiters for their kids...no problem. Fast forward to today, AFTER I have done the bulk of the shopping, menu planning, etc find out one couple can't get a sitter. So, we now have to tell the other couple this and of course their kids are coming to. So 5 bored children/teens will now be here for what I was looking forward to as a "grown-up" night. We have a very small yard and no way in H*LL am I letting let play inside unsupervised!!
I'm SOOOOOO looking forward to the GTG and hoping to make some new friends to socialize with!!
Ok, vent over for now...

I'm sorry your party didn't work out the way you intended. It stinks the other couple didn't get a babysitter when they said they would. I am sure you will still have a fun time.

How old is the teen? Maybe he/she can watch the younger ones at one of the other couples houses!

Shawnna, I'm sorry. I know what you how you feel.
Every year DH and I have a Christmas party..just friends, but we do invite some of the neighbors. We always put "adults only" on the invite. And yet, my neighbor across the street shows up with her son (he is now 5 and has been a terror since he was 3, still is), for the past two years. She doesn't stop me on the street or come over, or call and ask, she just shows up with him. Honestly, if he was a good kid I wouldn't care so much. But he is a nightmare, running on my couch, hitting my dogs (then both), he tried to use his mother's keys to carve into my new sheetrocked walls! She has no control over him whatsoever.

Oh let me tell you something. If something like this EVER happened in my house, these people would no longer be invited over again EVER.
How DARE she allow her child to be destructive in your home?
Carving into the sheet rock with a key? My husband would have had an immediate stroke and thrown them out on the spot.
That is the most disrespectful thing I have ever heard of !

It was OK, not the night I envisioned (everyone left by 10) but it was mostly fun. The kids were all well behaved, dirty, but good. 
By 9 I was relegated to the beer and the guys as the women were talking kid stuff and you can only relate nieces/nephews so much, KWIM? Fortunatley, I like beer!!
Both couples said they'd like to have a "grown up night" so we'll see if that ever materializes.

You know what, I'd rather be with the guys drinking beers than sitting with the women anyway!
