bc pill issue VERY TMI!

I was on Loestrin and it was too expensive so I switched to the generic version of Orthotricyclen. I got AF and then did a Sunday start with the new pill. About three days later I got AF again, but the heaviest I have ever gotten in my life. Literally, changing every hour on the hour and it still wasnt enough. I had to wake up a half hour earlier every day just to make it to work on time after all of the cleaning up.

My GYN told me to stop taking the pill and I did - but still had a very heavy flow. In the end it was over 15 days of super heavy flow. I started taking the Loestrin again and THAT NIGHT just had some spotting - and it has been about a week still with just light spotting.

The reason I am posting this is b/c I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Is this what I should expect when I go off the pill to TTC? Should I be concerned about my future fertility?

My GYN doesnt seem concerned at all - but was just looking for personal experiences.

I've heard of breakthrough bleeding, but NOT that heavy.. Is there another pill you can switch to?? I take Yasmin and there's a generic for it called Ocello and when I made the switch I had no problems at all.. Maybe you can try that?

til - i am so so sorry....

i 'switched' pill brands twice in my life. I was on SOMETHING and then went to Yasmine. I was on Yasmine for like 9 years.

I remember when i was on the OTHER pill and switched to Yasmine - my period changed, but for the better. For some reason - i BARELY bled at all. It was a great change...but it is NORMAL for your flow to change based on the new levels of hormones....so know that and take solace in that.

The pill is forcing hormones into your body in differing amounts per different pill....so that you changed pills means you were getting a different amount/type of hormone - which your body did NOT like apparently.

BEFORE the pill - my periods were a nightmare...i was put ON the pill because i had ovarian cysts covering both ovaries and the pain i went through every month made me want to die. 12 years later - i went off the pill to TTC and honestly, i was PETRIFIED that my period would go back to that...but it did not. I went back to a more normal flow and no more pain than Tylenol could handle.

DO NOT worry about your future fertility...if your doc isn't concerned, then I wouldn't be either. I started ovulating within 2 months of going off the pill. A close friend of mine who was on the pill for 10 years, she DID NOT ovulate for 10 months, however the first month she did ovulate, she got pregnant. It's all about your body and what it will do.

I had the opp. problem
my periods are EXTREMELY Heavy and I swear I could be the midol representative because I get every type of bloat, pain, swelling, headache imaginable for 5-7 days each month.
I went on Loestrin after having polyps in uterus which was making it even worse each month. I had surgery to remove them and then was put on loestrin to make my periods lighter. Loestrin was the worst experience. I swear I felt like a walking swollen bubble, my cycle lasted almost 2weeks on it yes it was very light, but I still had painful cramps and gained 18 lbs. on it.
Not to mention a bunch of other side effects.
I went off it, and my periods went back to the way they were, and as much as I suffer monthly, I'd rather have the 5-7 days then 2weeks.
Everyone reacts differently to it. If the loestrin works for you, ask your gyn for a couple of samples for a few months, most gyn offices have them and my gyn had given me samples for it even though my insurance covered it.

That is one of the reasons(among other things) I can never take a bc pill. Maybe you can try Nuva ring? I tried and liked it, it's so easy to use and to remember and it REALLY regulated my flow but I started having night sweats . (I asked around on here and my friends before I started using it and EVERYONE loves it).
I am considering Mirena IUD sometime soon(not planning on having more children for another 3-4 years or more if ever) so I guess I'll see how that goes.
