Does it seem a little odd to you
Last week as some of you may already know about my dad passing... What seems to be a little odd is, not one person from his family called, you know that Sympathy Call... My dad had lot's of family and he was everyones favorite uncle... A week later I haven't heard from one person, only from his friends... Is this the new trend for the 21st century that I haven't heard about yet.....

That is just horrible, I'm so sorry When my father passed away a few months ago, we had the opposite - people I didn't know, like law school alumnae, or people from his old law firm, called and wrote letters with their condolences. It felt weird, not knowing these people, but it was thoughtful and touching nonetheless, so no, I don't think it's the norm, and I think they should be ashamed of themselves.
I'm so sorry for your loss

I found that when my parents died, friends were actually much better with expressing condolences and checking in than family was. I don't know if it's that they were dealing with their own grief and had a hard time talking about it, or if it's the fact that we didn't speak that regularly before the deaths so they thought it would be uncomfotable for me.
Everyone reacts to death differently and isn't always concerned about how you are doing. I am sorry for your loss.

People just don't know what to say. I lost my father and I know how painful it is. When I go to a wake I always think in my head what I am going to say. Everything that comes to mind just seems not the right thing to say. I hate going to wakes mostly because I wish that person did not have to die but also that I don't know what to say.

I'm sorry to hear that. Just to throw it out there, are you sure they all know about his passing? It seems like a given, but when my grandpa died, apparently everyone assumed that someone else had called his niece and her family, and in their grief it got overlooked - they found out nearly a year after the fact... anyway, if everyone is well aware, I'd guess it's probably because they just don't know what to say, but you never know with people.
