2 year old moms - question
I don't really have concerns, just curious:
Cailen still eats like a new eater. If things aren't cut up small, he can choke. He gags on things with too much texture, stuff like that.... anyone else? His speech is fine - its hard to understand him sometimes, but other than that, he is ok - anyone have problems with eating like that?

Noah tends to choke a lot too still. But he did have some food issues, size of pieces, textures etc. Not severe by any means just slight and I think it contributes to it. I think Cailen might just be more cautious and I think it actually happens more with acautious eaters.
Ask the Ped though at next visit. He could have something like a narrow throat opening or a large tongue, something silly like that , that is not serious but gets in the way.
Noah ahs a few differnt tongue issues. They DO affect his speech but if they were just a bit slighter they wouldnt and you would never know and he might still have the eating issues. Make sense??

Maybe he just has a small mouth? This was *my* issue actually, and I had orthodontic issues because my teeth were too big. 
Though I do try to cut stuff up for her, as she still does not have all her back teeth.

My DD turns 2 in 3 weeks, and has the exact same issues. Can't eat a chunky soup b/c of the smooth then chunky texture, etc. Does not affect her speech at all though, thankfully. She's just a very cautious (and PICKY!!!) eater.

My DD is half and half with this... I cut up things like pizza but she bites nuggets, pancakes.. whole things like that. She is not an eater at all so she doesnt have a vast menu. She does choke all the time while drinking tho. It's constant.

I am still breaking up Bryans food. If we give him a whole chicken nugget or something like that, he wants to shove the whole thing in.
We are trying to teach him "Take a bite", he gets it sometimes and other times its like "food monster" and inhales it!

I tell him to "go slow" - he knows whats that means, but I use the hand motion (you know, like when you pass a construction sight and they use the hand motion to tell you to go slow) and he will do the hand motion when we say it and still eat fast

Many toys are ages 3+ because many experts agree that DC under 3 still have a tendency to choke. I don't think it's unusual that your DS has issues with food still.

That makes sense... I guess I would have figured he would have mastered chewing and swallowing by now... then again, he IS my kid!!

Lily is the exact opposite. We can't cut up her food for her - she refuses to eat it! But she's a dainty little thing and takes very ladylike little bites, so it works out.
It does make me nervous sometimes, but it's the only way she'll actually eat (and she eats so little, I'll do whatever it takes).

DS is 21 months. I don't think HE has an issue with food but, I think I do. I always still chop up his food and never give him things whole - except for things like a cereal bar or something - everything else I chop up for him. His eyes are bigger than his mouth and even with chopping up the food he sometimes shoves a whole fistful in his mouth. he doesn't ever gag and eats just fine but, about a month ago we had a VERY scary apple choking incident and ever since I am paranoid

He could have enlarged tonsils. I know quite a few children that have that problem and it caused them to gag while eating. Take a peek in there with the flashlight and see how big they look.

this is DD and she will be 3 next week. doesnt affect speech or anything, she just has eating issues.
