Question for those with SK's that had a DC with their Father/Mother..

DH and I are officially TTC this month - SD has a new baby sister from BM that is about a month old - she is adjusting hard, but they told her about the baby as soon as BM POAS. I don't want to be in labor when we tell her, but I want to make sure we are fine and confirmed with sonos and such before we break the news to ANYONE.

Do you think 12-13 weeks is an ok time frame to let a 6 y/o know that another sibling is on the way?
I know we would plan on telling our families right around then and I would rather the news come from DH to her than BM hearing through the grapevine and telling SD... KWIM?

If you have been in this situation - how did you handle it?

It was common knowledge around our house, to both my children and DHs children, that we were planning on having another child....we didnt keep that part a secret. My girls were 7, 7, & 12 and DHs DDs were 3 & 8.

When I did conceive (which fortunitely didnt take too long) we waited to tell them until around 12/13 weeks or so....

The girls were 4, 8,8, 9, & 13 when DS was born....

We told them, I think in mid march, by June they were ready for him to get here already. Pregnancy takes an aweful long time for a child....

SSs were 9 and 6 when we got pg with DS. I wanted to wait to tell them until 12 weeks, but when I was only 6 weeks or so, we were all in the park (woodsy area) and the kids wanted to go "hiking", DH decided that was a good time to tell them while he explained why it wasn't a good idea for me to go hiking. They adjusted well immediately. My younger SS had questions like, how do you know? etc. I was lucky to have an easy pregnancy and the boys were on board the whole way through!

my SS was 7 when we got married. he knew we were going to add to our family and the weekend after i POAS, we told him. he was so excited he spelled B R O T H E R and said that's what he wanted. he's adjusted well since, even though there are the typical sibling jealousy issues here and there ;)
good luck

I had 3 SC and with DD#1 we waited until after I was about 20 weeks to tell them. They were 3, 5 and 7 at the time. This time around (a year later Chat Icon ) we are going to wait the same amount again. And I will have an amnio earlier than last year so we are going to tell them that they are going to have a brother or sister. The kids are now 4, 6 and 8. It was hard keeping it a secret but since I am chubby to begin with, they can't tell that my belly is growing. Chat Icon Whatever is most comfortable for you and DH! Chat Icon
