7 months- rear or front facing?
The manual says to wait until 1 to forward face. So I rear faced and her feet are up against the back seat- causing her legs to bend. I dont think thats right...should she be front facing then?

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
I have the same problem with my infant seat, but apparently it has to be one before forward facing...

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
Keep her rear facing until AT LEAST 20 pounds AND a year. Some are saying it's actually better to wait til they are 2 years old.
Bent legs mean nothing, although it looks annoying to us. It has to do with their spines and they aren't ready to be forward facing until later.
DS was nearly 34 inches tall when we changed him at 15 months. His legs were bent for a while.

Rear facing. 20 lbs and one year, then they can turn around. My DD had the same issue, we just had to wait it out.

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
Their necks aren't strong enough to handle the force of a hard stop if they are facing forward. This isn't even in case of an accident, just slamming on the brakes can hurt their necks, causing whiplash, even brain damage. They are fine with bent legs.

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
You cannot forward face until a minimum of 1 year old and 20lbs and even then they recommend staying rear facing as long as possible as it's safer.

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
does the straps on your infant seat adjust to a higher level. Ours does and we adjusted up higher and that fixed the problem with her legs hanging over

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
Just to reiterate what everyone else said, the gov't MINIMUM is 1 year and 20 lbs, but who wants to trust their DC's lives to what the gov't says is the minimum?
The latest recommendations are 2 years. I researched a while ago, and I found that there were no instances of injury to any child because their legs were against the seat or their knees were bent.

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
We didn't turn DC around until after 2. The longer the rear faced the safest. Would rather legs a little squished than worse off problems...

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
Rear facing until at least 1 year AND at least 20 lbs. We reached the weight early and DD is tall so her knees were bent. I kept her rear facing until about 15 or 16 months and would have waited longer but she was getting very antsy and likes to be able to see me.
It is much safer to be rear facing, in fact it's safer for older children and adults too but cars just aren't designed that way.
Ultimately, even with their feet jammed against the back seat and their knees bent, if an accident happened, it is easier to recover from a broken leg or knee than a broken neck.

DDs legs are crunched too but they cannot turn until 1 and 20 lbs. No matter what.

ITA My son is going to be 21 months and we just turned his seat front facing about a month ago.

Re: 7 months- rear or front facing?
DS is 14.5 months and 22 pounds and is still rear-facing. His knees are not bent, maybe it's the seat.
