exesaucer vs. walker

DD just turned 7 months yesterday, she loves the exesaucer, and she is crawling around like a mad woman.. do you think i should have her in a walker or is the exesaucer enough to do the trick???

If your house is 100% baby proofed and she can't reach the counters or fall down any stairs in the walker, then get it.

my ds loves the exesaucer..i recently bought a walker but i have mostly carpets so DS only walks around halways/kitchen...i wish i didnt get it cause he is constantly going over and reaching for things....i think the exesaucer is a better idea. i did just buy this fisher price music thing he can walk and push around...he loves it!!!

My ped said no walkers at all. I keep forgetting to ask why. Anyone know why the dr would say no walkers?

It doesn't help them walk any quicker. It actually will delay walking. Something about the baby not being able to see their feet and them not being able to put their feet and walking together.

it won't definitely delay walking, it CAN delay walking.

we have one for DS and he LOVES it!! uses it all over our downstairs (where there's no stairs to fall down). he loves to beep the horn and go cruising Chat Icon

he has been cruising on his own since 10 months and started walking at exactly a year. so the walker definitely DID NOT delay walking for HIM.Chat Icon

DS used an exersaucer and a walker and I don't feel his walking was delayed. He was walking at 11 months.

He loved his walker! I think the other concerns are safety concerns. I had a friend who's son fell down a flight of stairs in a walker. You just have to make sure everything is safe when you use it.

Re: exesaucer vs. walker

we had both, and a jumperoo, and I'm happy we did. we live in a ranch with mostly hard flooring. DD loved her walker and started taking steps on her own at 10 1/4 months old. We had walking wings too.

DS started in a walker at 5 months and LOVED IT!
He walked on his own FT at 10.5 months so he was NOT delayed by using a walker.

We actually used a walker more than our exersaucer! DS just never loved the exersaucer he did love exploring in his walker though!

I will say I live in a ranch (no stairs = less chance of major accident) and have all hard wood floors so he could take that thing anywhere!

I think that the walker is more of a safety issue. We just have an exersaucer, not a walker. Same with DS when he was a baby. I guess if you live in a ranch with no stairs, then a walker would be ok.
