Unemployment...

Stinks. I am BORED. Now, I said I was taking a few months off but I kinda lied. I have been sending resumes like CRAZY!

SO, it's tough out there. I can't even believe it. Years ago, I would send 10 resumes and 5 employers would call me.

Now I am MORE experienced with an education and NO one is calling me. I send about 20 resumes.

I have been unemployed a week- given. I should give it time. But still, I didn't realize how bad it was. Ughhhhh!!!!!!! Chat Icon

Re: Unemployment...

Yes I used to do that too send like 10 out and get 5 responses right away. I was told by an friend who is in HR that lately when she posts a job opening she gets anywhere from 50 - 100 responses for that one job. She only picks the best out of the bunch to set up interviews.

So yes it is very, very tough out there now and alot of people are going after the same job. There will be something out there for you. Not to scare you or anything but it took me 8 months to find my current job. i was getting very despressed that no one liked my resume. Did you try Indeed.com and Craigslists has jobs too . I went on most my job interviews from Craigslist. Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Unemployment...

In addition to setting goals for how many jobs to apply to daily/weekly, you should also set goals for getting into contact with those in your professional network. I strongly recommend joining LinkedIn (depending on your field), and becoming actively involved in the professional organizations within your field to stay up to date, and to learn about the "hidden job market." Many jobs are being filled through internal connections since HR is being flooded with so many resumes.

Also, make sure you're being proactive with the resumes you submit. Follow up with the companies to reiterate your interest.

Good luck.
