but we are talking about someone who is proud to put in the minimum effort teaching people kids - not the "value of relaxing for a year of hard work"
Ok I was not going to say anything to this post as I am not a teacher and this is a teachers board, the same way I would not post in the parents board as I am not a parent (I hope you get what I am trying to tell you ). The over post clearly mention that the minium effort was to prepare herself during the summer, not during school year. Now my question is to you, do you work during your vacation or time off?? and if you do (which make you a much better employee than me) do you work as hard as when you are at work???

Oh... I can take a hint. Sorry to offend you guys. I thought you could post anywhere on this site. Clearly this is for industry specific posts about serious topics... like relaxing.
I'll go back and delete my posts...

And yes, I did say minimal effort over the summer. How dare you come in like that and judge the kind of teacher I am based on how I choose to spend my summer
I will say again, your kid would be LUCKY to have a teacher like me.

How could you not think that your post was offensive? You know nothing about her. Do you know how long she has been teaching? Do YOU know anything about teaching in general?
Also like a pp I am wondering if YOU work during your vacation???
FYI: Once your post is quoted deleting doesn't matter.

Sweetie, I’m sorry the values my district has to offer do not meet your high standards. I actually do have immense pride in myself as a teacher- from September to June! Over the summer I have pride in my ability to relax and separate myself from the classroom I work so hard in all year long. It’s because of my ‘minimal effort’ over the summer that I have the stamina to work so hard during the school year, often staying in my classroom well past 5pm several days each week preparing lessons, decorating bulletin boards, and grading papers. I would have time to do those things during my lunch period, but I often spend that time giving students extra help on reading or math. Welcome to the “effortless” life of a school teacher.
I have to say, your kid would be lucky to have a teacher like me. I am a very loving, caring, creative teacher who cares deeply about each one of my students and their families.

Re: Are you doing anything to prepare.....
I think parents need to be WELL AWARE of just how many EXTRA ( non-paid) hours most teachers work to make sure their classroom runs smoothly and effectively.
As someone else posted- I know myself and many many of my colleagues work well past the workday (sometimes all night!) grading, planning, researching etc. If parents only knew the half of it- we'd get alot more respect than obviously parents like "someone" who get on their high horse and proclaim us lazy for enjoying summer.
Also, how many of those parents make their kids do work over the summer to be better students in the fall! HA!

Agreed.
And I just have to at that whole situation. Absolutely ridiculous.
I hope her posts were deleted out of embarrassment Though, through the power of 'quoting' they are all still available for us to see for our entertainment.

Re: Are you doing anything to prepare.....
I'm working on some of the details of my (mandatory) school play. I think I'm going to do "Healthy Habits" this year. I teach first grade and I found some cute songs online about eating too much junk. Doing this now will definitely make my life easier during the school year. I also thought a little bit about how I want to change my room and what color backing I'll use for my bulletin boards and word wall. I plan to tweak last year's lesson plans as I go along.
The rest of the day is spent reading, hanging with friends, downing martinis and hitting the beach!
