45 min..... usually by 30 min she will go down... on a bad day. After 45 min I get her out of the crib, change her, play with her nurse her and try again in 30- 45

It took J an hour to fall asleep for his second nap today.

i'm the evil mom Chat Icon if i *know* she needs a nap and she fights me, i try putting her down for 5 minutes before i leave her there to cry. on a good day she'll cry for under 5 min and conk out. on a bad day she'll cry for 20 min and give up and go to sleep Chat Icon. i just don't have the patience for it...she needs a nap, i need a break, if only she'd accept the inevitable and go down easily!! thankfully she hasn't pulled one of those in a while.

eta - i wait for her to give me cues she's ready for a nap, i don't follow a strict schedule. she's either fussy or rubbing her eyes when i try to put her down. if she fights me, then that's when the rumble begins Chat Icon

Can I tell you something...my son did not have ONE SINGLE NAP until he was ten months old...

The minute he started walking (at ten months old) the naps started coming easily....

i really don't have a napping routine with her, basically whenever she looks/acts tired I try for a few mins and she goes down right away if she is tired...if not within 10 mins I don't push.

I work during the week, so I prefer that she STTN, which she does.

It depends on the day and my mood... sometimes I'll try for 1/2 hour other times 15 minutes. If I give up, I play with her for a while and then try again.

i am pushing her now...basically, we used to go about 2 hours in between, now 3...she would fight us for an hour, it honestly can be awful and just stressful. One thing i have noticed, she just got the top two teeth in, well, they cut through....while she was teething bad, she fought me like crazy at bed and naps..now, she goes down since they cut through...i think teething can really really affect sleep, it has for my daughter...PS, i am still getting up every night and she is just turning 8 months...

Ds has gotten better- I used to wait a very long hour. Now, at almost 3 months, he has gotten used to the routine and will usually fall asleep after 5 mins. If he's overtired he may go up to 20 mins.

DD would NOT nap unless she was sleeping on you. The second you would try and put her down she would wake right up. PIA!!! Finally when she was 9 months old and we let her sleep on her stomach was she able to go down easier for naps, get herself to doze off, and stay asleep for a good 1-2hr. nap. Chat Icon

Ditto (basically the minimum length of a decent nap).

I pray this happens to us. Liam is such a horrible napper.

Re: Moms of bad nappers... How long do you try for a nap before you give up?

I usually go no more than 30 min. .. But I also have no set time for him to nap, just when I see sleepy cues I put him in his crib. But now that he can kneel and jump in the crib, I'm so afraid to even let him go 30 min, because I'm afraid he will fall back and bump his head.
