How do you de-stress???

I am having a really hard time, having a special needs child..first admitting that there really is a problem that she just won't "grow out of", dealing with unsolicted advice and also finding time for myself and for my marriage.

How do you do it??? Do you talk to a therapist? Go to a support group? Exercise??

I have a social worker. I use her as my shrink! She comes 1 hour every week. I talk for 1 hour. I feel better after our sessions.

Re: How do you de-stress???

I use my SIL. My two nephews have a few things going on. One has a multiple tick disorder / ADHD and the other has some sensory issues. Her and I are each other's rock. I only vent to her about anything otherwise I get the unsolicited advice that everyone likes to give.

I also try and find time for just me, even if it's going to get a pedicure or sitting in the bathroom / laundry room reading brainless magazines.

As for my dh and I we stick to a strick bedtime rule for our three and when they are in bed there is no work or computer going on between us...just us, even if it's catching up on tivo shows.

For me, I know no one else going though this. So its hard for anyone to understand what we go through with Ryan. My mom is the closest I have since she dealt with some similar issues with my sister.

I take some time for myself... mani/pedi, going to the store by myself, laying down on my bed and watch a few tv shows to unwind.. etc. Ry has good days and bad days, and on the bad ones, I need to be away from him to regroup for a minute. Luckily, DH's schedule is flexible and he is home a lot so I can do that, and so does he.

I use my Parent Training session to vent about things with the one therapist. I LOVE her and is great.
I also try to take time to go out shopping or take a jog by myself, mani/pedi.
