Should the hospital be held accountable?? WWYD??
DH and i are starting to recieve bills. My antibiotic treatments at home are $6,000 to make sure the staph doesn't come back and that isn't counting the $75,000+ for the last 6 days I was in the hospital for the staph infection i contracted from my c-section that landed me in ICU Saturday. C-section was 8/3 and I was re-admitted to the hospital on 8/13 until yesterday. DH and I can't afford this and feel we shouldn't have to, if they had performed proper infection control procedures, i might have never gotten the staph. How else would i have gotten staph infection in my uterus?? My husband and I just feel the hospital should be held accountable for the bill for curing the infection.
What do you think?? Should DH and I contact a a lawyer? I don't care about getting money from them, i just want this hospital bill paid even though i am very, very mad that I was taken away from my newborn for a week. I am so stressed!!

I think you shoudl contact a lawyer. Odds are you got it during the csection for sure. Please contact a lawyer.
I am glad you are doing better, though.

I would definitly contact a lawyer. I don't know the exact laws or anything but you would think that they should be held responsible for something. Glad to see that your home and hope you get better

Contact a lawyer, the best one you can find. My nana got a staph infection in her eye and lost her vision, and my aunt thought about suing but was told that it would have been really hard to prove that it happened in the hospital even though that was almost certainly where she got it. Your situation is different, but I want you to know what you might expect to hear. Good luck.

Ask a medical malpractice lawyer what he/she thinks. I'm sorry for all you went through.

I would talk to your insurance company. I'm sure they also aren't thrilled with the $$ of bills they have to deal with. They may suggest the best course of action for you.

You should contact a medical malpractice attorney ASAP (one who does a lot of malpractice b/c some personal injury attys only do a limited amount of med malpractice) they will be able to sit down with you and figure out if the hospital or your OB has any liability and if you have any recourse against them. You might be able to file a claim rather than a suit depending on your situation (sorry I haven't been following your story).
I hope you get it worked out soon and are feeling better.

I haven't read any past posts so I'm not sure if I missed something but why is your insurance company not covering this?

Do you have a maximum out of pocket with your insurance? My max OOP expense is $4K for a familly plan and the delivery alone will meet that.
I'm so sorry you went through that, I also was hospitalized for a week a few days after I was discharged for an infection - I was rushed to the ER for fear of stroking. I know how frustrating it is, but before you go the lawyer route it might not even matter if you've reached your maximum. Let your insurance company fight it out!
Feel better

Re: Should the hospital be held accountable?? WWYD??
I would contact a laywer and your insurance company. I'd be interested to see if the hospital filed a claim for those charges. I think Medicare recently stopped paying health care providers for care resulting from certain "reasonably preventable" medical errors, though I'm not sure staph is on the list. But once Medicare starts doing something, private insurance usually follows. Also, if your insurance doesn't cover it, you have the right to appeal the decision. Just a thought (sorry, I'm in health policy!) Either way, you shouldn't have to pay for that.
