Moms who make their own food for DC...
I gave DD carrots for the first time today (her first "food" other than cereal!). I was so excited to give it to her. It was room temp. I gave her some cereal, then some carrots...she HATED the carrots. Not only did she slowly spit them out, but she gagged on the rest of them that didn't make it out! I am so bummed that I made them and she didn't like them. We are going to try again tomorow night with the carrots (dr said 3 days for each new food).
Anyone else go through this? Did I start with the right veggie? Any advice?

DS isn't a big fan of carrots, but he'll eat them. I started with bananas, then avocados, pears and sweet potatoes. Keep trying though.

Keep with it, it is a great thing to do. I think I started with apples, but I am not sure. You have to try it out for the three days, you can mix it with the cereal and see how that goes. Good luck to you. Let me know if you have any questions.

It might be the texture more than the flavor. The store bought ones are more watery and when you make them at home (at least when I did) they were a little chalky. I added a good amount of water to thin them out a bit. This happens with sweet potatoes too because they can be a little pastey... she loves them both, but they have to be thinned out enough. Or... DC just might not like them maybe try some bananas... those seem to be a big hit!

I think I read to try something at least 3 ( or was it 6 ) times to see if they like it.
For us, when wse first introduced fruits and veggies, my son just wasnt ready, we tried again 5-6 weeks later and he loved them...Its all about playing around with it.
But there were some foods he just never liked ( the green foods) ...

Okay, I'm trying it again tonight! My mom and MIL both suggested adding sugar to them...but the whole reason I made the food myself was to give her natural veggies/fruit! I am trying it again, maybe thinned out a little more, tonight. Thanks for the advice.
