** Anyone teach 5th grade math in New York?!

If so, what topics are generally studied throughout the year? I am trying to come up with an assessment for my 6th graders this year! Thank you!

I never taught 5th grade, but I would look up a copy of past NYS math exams to get a good idea.

I teach 5th grade.

We spend a lot of time on finding factors, creating factor rainbows, drawing arrays to identify factor pairs, defining prime and composites, multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits, division, adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators, comparing fractions with unlike denominators and some work with finding area of squares, rectangles, parallelograms and triangles.

The 5th grade curriculum in my school is this:
(I teach special ed. self-contained, so I usually take these topics and create my own curriculum based on their IEP and what they can handle. My kids can't do all of this, but I do get to a good bit of it.

Multiplication (usually 3 digit by 3 digit is the most we do) - then talk about tricks and rules of multiplication (i.e. using zero when multiplying
Factors and multiples
Division - long division
Place Value up to billions
Decimal system - usually go to thousandths.
Then adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals. Also, comparing decimals
Fractions: adding and subtracting with like and unlike denominators, comparing fractions, basic multiplying and dividing fractions
Geometry: angles, polygons, symmetry
Probability: ratio, likely, unlikely, impossible
