Does anyone else feel that kids are just getting more and more rude?

This has happened to me a few times, but yesterday's event really bothered me a lot more, and I don't know why.

I was leaving school, and in order to get to my DD's daycare, I have to pass the Middle School, which was just letting out.

There was a group of 3 girls waiting to cross the street where I was about to make a right turn. I stopped and waved for them to go.

Not only did I get no wave or other form of "thank you" in return, but these girls proceeded to take their sweet time getting across the street. I probably waited a good 30 seconds for them to decide that they were good and ready to get to the other side.

I know this will make me sound old, but what is wrong with these kids these days??? Their sense of entitlement is amazing to me!

I plan on teaching my DD to be MUCH more respectful than that!

I would answer "yes" based on experiences I had with my students last year, but what you describe sounds more like being clueless and self-absorbed, which I think kids that age have always been. Last year I dealt with SO much blatant rudeness on a pretty regular basis from probably 20 of my 30 kids. But then again, this year my kids have been really sweet. So maybe there is hope.

YES YES YES!!!

Then again, I think people in general are getting more rude. When I let people go in front of me (when I driving), its sad...but I dont even expect a thank you wave anymore.

You raise a good point... but... I don't think it's that kids are more rude now than they were in the past, or when we were that age.......I think it's that our perspective changed.

When we were that age, we weren't judging our classmates based on their 'rudeness'...... coming in from an adult perspective, and as a teacher, parent, etc. we are so much more aware of these things.

By the way, I remember students in my school (when I was a student) being SOOOOO rude to the school librarians, that they would get kicked out of the library regularly.

YES! I can't believe the things these kids say. Having no manners seems to be becoming the norm to such an extent that I'm surprised when I meet a polite kid! It's sad it's this way.
