I have learned when I moved to Long Island this idea of no one parking in front of your house is a long island thing....... it just amazes me. Chat Icon

I have lived in Queens my entire life and when someone's parked in front of my house I go absolutely mental. There is parking aplenty on this block, but for some reason, the people across the street and a house over NEED to park in front of our house, meanwhile they have about 3 free spots in front of their own damn house. WHHHHYYYYY??!!!!!

Greenfreak - what would PIZZ me off more is the parking wrong ways. i wish cops would give tickets for little things like this. all of the counties would make a MINT if they ticketed all these little annoyances!!!

They do give tickets for that. Just report him and say that there is a car you don't know who it belongs to and it's facing the wrong way. Chat Icon

He's a volunteer fireman, I highly doubt he would get a ticket. Chat Icon

The thing that irks me is that I have to be painstaking with my sprinkler in order to water the plants along where he parks. He leaves his windows open a lot. Part of me wants to water his SUV in the process but I haven't been that disgruntled yet. Chat Icon

Oh and his wife asked me not to put view obstructions too close to the street, for the safety of her daughter coming out of her driveway. Completely understand that, so I put the fence 10 feet off the street. But her husband still parks in a spot that completely obscures their daughter's view of the corner.

So I planted six shrubs along the fence for privacy, since it's obvious that request was mostly B.S. and I don't want to look at their vehicles anymore.

Re: Parking in front of our house...

I never knew this existed till I moved to LI but I understand it. I don't care if people park in front of my house when they are coming to visit but I think it would bother me if they parked in front of my house on a regular basis and they never parked in front of their own or in their driveway. It just seems like an odd thing to do since it's sort of one of those unwritten "rules". Or if neighbor knew you used the space on a regular basis and just started parking there, it would be annoying. Sure it's public property blahblahblah but it's odd and I think most people know the deal on LI.

You could really make a statement and park in their driveway. ;)

No, see... I'm going to park the closest to my house as possible... even if that means taking someone else's "spot" if someone is parked in my reg spot. The way I see it, dont get mad at me, get mad at the idiot who started the chain reaction Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Parking in front of our house...

Dh can not stand people parking in front of our apartment and I can't imagine about when we finally get in the house. It doesn't bother me so much to me a street is made for parking with in reason (if they had plenty of parking in front of their house I would be ******) Currently we have the white trash caravan across the street - a camper for four months now stationed on the street hooked up to the house across the street. If we owned here I would report them but since we rent then I really do not care. I just don't get people.

I would tell them about the sprinker and as a courtesy wanted to let them know that you need to run the sprinkler and it may soak the car. Fair warning!!!!!

that's my thoughts...not saying no one can park in front of my house, it is my house but not my street, but not when it's everyday, and you have open spots in front of your own house. It's just bizarre
