Shingles
Has anyone had shingles? I just found out this morning that I have it. I had the chicken pox 2x when I was younger- and now this.
How long until your shingles went away? My Dr says I'm not allowed to go to work at all this week.

Re: Shingles
I had shingles two years ago. I was out of work one week. The stabbing pain lasted about a month. I have had no problems since. Some people unfortunately suffer nerve damage and it lasts throughout their life. Hope you recover soon!

Re: Shingles
I'm so sorry Liz!
All shingles cases are different. My MIL just had them, but it was mild. She was back to normal in a few days.
My mom had them nearly 30 years ago and still gets pain about once every 5 years. She feels like she is being stabbed for a few hours, then it stops.
I hope yours is mild!

Re: Shingles
I had shingles once, a couple of years ago. It was a small rash on my lower back, with a tingling feeling along the nerve going around my waist. I had no idea what it was, but my dermatologist took one look and knew right away. She gave me medicine and the rash and itch went away within another week or so, but it was very uncomfortable. I haven't had a recurrence at all and I was only out of work for a couple of days.
I know shingles on the facial nerve can be much more serious and can affect vision, so I was happy it was just on my back.
Sorry to hear you have shingles and I hope you feel better soon!!!!

Re: Shingles
Dh had it in June. It was awful and he had a very severe case in his eye and face. He still has pain and is taking pain meds for it.
Hopefully yours will be mild and won"t hinder you long term
Take it easy and take your meds.

Re: Shingles
I had it about 7 years ago, it was a nasty red rash on my back. The doc gave me meds and said to put on hydrocortisone cream and cover it. The rash went away after about a month or two... I am very lucky that it wasn't on my face!!
I hope you feel better soon!

Re: Shingles
I had it 5 years ago and also had chicken pox when i was a kid. Went to the ER because I thought I had a raging ear infection. The just realized it was shingles at the end when they saw the rash along my jaw line. Put me on valetrex (sp?) right away and I could not go to work or be around anyone for a week. I had a pretty mild case of it but I had it on the face which is dangerous. I still have what I call phanthom ear pain here and there and when I am outside in the cold (even mild cold) I have to cover my ears...it gets extremely painful if I do not.
Hang in there and feel better.

Re: Shingles
I found out I have shingles today... lucky you though, my dr told me I was ok to go to work. Just wondering... how old are you? I am only 27... i thought this was something only older people got?

I was only 24 when I had it, was told it's unusual to have it so young but could happen if your immune system is compromised like when under stress.

I'm only 29 (today is my birthday).
Sorry to hear you have shingles too! At least you can go to work. I apparently have a really bad case of it!

I got shingles in the 8th grade!!! The youngest the dr. ever saw. My DH got shingles when he was 18. When we found that out we knew we were meant to be together!! The dr. said when it happens to younger people it is due to stress. My case wasn't so bad. I had blisters around my stomach and upper leg area. It wasn't too painful. I think I onlly missed one day of school. My grandfather had a horrible case - in his mouth, everywhere and extremely painful.

Re: Shingles
I got mine at 28 right after my wedding. My doctor at the time told me he is seeing more and more cases of shingles in younger people and they don't know why. I feel like I know so many people who have gotten it over the past 5 years.

Re: Shingles
wow, you had CP 2x? I did too and so did my DH. Just out of curiosity do you know if that makes you more susceptible to getting shingles?
I hope you feel better!!
