my experience with Empire Today updated!
i've seen some not so great reviews on here, i'd like to share mine!
(we haven't had the carpet installed yet so i will update on Friday.)
the man that came to our house was very nice. he first measured the two rooms we need carpeted.
then he asked us what we were looking for and based on that, he brought in a bunch of samples from his car.
he wasn't pushy at all - he was very matter of fact, and since DH and i had already priced carpet at Home Depot and Lowes we knew what we *should* expect. we chose a frieze carpet for both rooms.
we ended up getting a quote of around $1700 for two large rooms (one is 31 sq. yards, the other is 29 sq. yards, which is a total of 540 sq. feet). that obviously includes carpet removal, padding, and installation.
it was by far the best price we saw for the carpet we wanted (which isn't expensive but isn't cheap either). it ends up being approximately $3.18 a sq. foot, and that was close to the price we were seeing at HD and Lowes for carpet and padding (a little more or less depending on the carpet), but minus installation. in addition, the wait time was 4+ weeks for Lowes (we did not get a chance to ask HD) for carpet not already in stock.
i can't wait to see how it looks!!
UPDATE:
so the installation took around 3 hours. they removed the old carpet, put the new one in, and vacuumed. they were very careful which was awesome since the rooms had just been painted. DH said the men were very nice - although one guy barely spoke English
the only complaint i have - which is my own fault for not reading the paperwork - is that they don't take the old carpet away.
luckily we live in the Town of Smithtown and they'll take anything
so all in all a very positive experience! oh and i think the carpet is gorgeous

Was there furniture in the rooms already? If so, did they charge extra to move it?

no, the rooms were empty, but we were told there was no extra charge for moving furniture.

I know they have a bad rep for being $$ but glad you had a great experience with them. Yes but you can REALLY negotiate We got a quote of almost $2000 from them . Told them we got a better deal from another store (which we did), they came down over $700

Who wants to bother negotiating. these guys are scumbags. A buddy of mine had them in for a quote.. they did the same thing to him... quoted him 2000$ for a 1100$ job. When they said they would do it for the same as the other store, he kicked them out and told them... "You might have gotten the job if you didn't try and rip me off w/ the first quote" They have lots of overhead and fancy commercials to pay for. Let someone else pay for it, im not.
But glad you had a good experience. I just don't like when people try and take advantage of me.

Re: my experience with Empire Today updated!
Do you know if the carpet is made of nylon or is it polypropolyne?
