Re: Please help! I think we have a mouse!

We are using Suburban for a mickey and minnie problem. I 100% completely recommend them. They have been amazing. After 3 visits (it wasn't a minor problem - our neighbors installed a pool and disturbed something) the mice are out of my house. They sealed all of the outside access areas, sprayed around the house and layed bait so that the mice have somewhere else to go.

We signed an annual contract for their Green service. Everyone that has come to the house has been amazing.

If you use them, let me know and I'll give you my name as I get a referral credit.

Honestly, an exterminator is just going to put down traps then leave. I wouldnt bother with the expense...just put your own traps down, where you have seen the mouse droppings. I know this sounds cruel but get the glue trap ones. they work the best. we had a bunch of mice in the crawl space above out garage and we used those traps and they worked best..

Good Luck

This is what we did. Never had a problem after that.

You should set your own traps but also figure out how they are getting into your house and seal up those openings.

They sell these sonar type devices that you plug into an outlet, you can get them in any hardware store, they are the size of a small nite lite. I found a mouse 5 years ago, got one of these things and have never had a problem since.

i had one in my house (basement) at one point. never saw a carcass but the thing never re-appeared. the same thing could happen to you... (we put sticky traps down)

i wouldn't bother with exterminator either.

Add another vote for the easier and cheaper option of glue traps! Make sure your DH knows it's his job to empty the traps. Chat Icon

Just be careful with the glue, that it doesn't get stuck to anything else. It's a PITA to get off.

We just had a little issue with the same thing--ugh.

Call Sam at Gotcha Pest Control at (718) 456-5601. He's based in Queens but covers Long Island too. He's great; the nicest guy and does an amazing job inspecting your entire house to find where they are coming in.

He came in, moved our stove, and even cleaned behind there, sealed up the hole and left the kitchen cleaner than it was before. Not only that, he has a guarantee so if you have any issues after, he comes back free of charge.

After he came the first time, we saw some more droppings. He came back that same night, found another teeny tiny hole, sealed it up and we haven't had a problem since.

Sam also set some traps just in case and told me that if I thought it caught one, to call him and he would even take care of it (my DH works a lot and I cannot deal with stuff like this).

I have nothing but good things to say about him and his service. I think it's always better to use someone who owns their own business too. We called Orkin and Terminix and they really tried to scare us into using their services and signing up for a lot more than we need--no thanks!

Re: Please help! I think we have a mouse!

One thing I learned from the exterminator, was that you may be able to trap the current mice that are in your home, but if you don't stop them from coming in, they will be back. They leave trails to follow so that next season they can come back and so will their friends.

You need to find where they are coming in. Also they eat insects, hiring an exterminator will stop the insects from coming in, giving the mice one less thing to feed on and they will hopefully move on to somewhere else.

Re: Please help! I think we have a mouse!

ugh recently i have seen some dropping too, I used those orkin traps and glue and nothing! these lil ***** are too smart. I havent seen anymore dropping so I wonder if they decided to go somewhere else. If I do I am going to try that guy Sam thanks for the referral, I am not into paying for so much more either.

Re: Please help! I think we have a mouse!

IMO the glue traps are inhumane. The mice get stuck and die of fright/heart attack and/or try to rip their feet off to get off the traps. I would never put these down in my home no matter how many mice I had.

I went the opposite extreme and caught the mice in have-a-heart traps... where they would go in the trap, it would close after them and then I'd release them outside in a woodsy area near a park (not near homes). I don't expect other people to do this but I think the snap traps are a little less awful than the glue because it will be quick and cause less suffering for the mouse.

ITA. We used glue traps at work. We caught a mouse and it didn't die. But once its stuck you can't take it off. I still think about it.
