NYC teachers who have taken maternity or know about it.
How does maternity leave work? I heard we are entitled to 3 months unpaid leave, but are allowed to use the days in our bank and borrow days so we get paid. Is this true? Also, what if you have a baby in September, or August. Do you have to go to work on the first day of school in order to continue getting paid? I would really appreciate the info. Thanks!

I heard you are entitled 6 weeks and you can use the "sick" days that you have in your bank in order to get paid. I heard that if you want to take more time off, you can apply for a longer leave for maternity or child card (not sure what its called..family leave?) and some women are out for like 4 months or so. I think you can be out for up to a year on that leave. Please dont quote me, this is just what I've heard from asking on this website lol This is so you can just get an idea
I also heard that you can "borrow" days if you dont have them in your bank in order to get paid.... I personally dont think I'd want to borrow days because later on if the baby gets sick, Im going to need those days....
