Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
are you nuts... In Ca we would tell them "I don't think so" you better come back after 5PM when it starts getting dark...
I never seen anything like this before...

Re: Tricker Treat @ 1PM
Ha! I'm from Long Island where ToTing that early is normal. Now I live in NC and no one goes until it's dark outside, I miss the afternoon TOTing.

I thought the same way-however I learned on the parenting boards that plenty of people are going out-some as early as 11 or 12.
We aren't going out until around 5.

Re: Trick-or-treating @ 1PM
whats wrong with that? i'm actually disappointed that no trick or treaters have come knocking on my door yet.
when halloween falls on the wknd, i would always assume that parents would start bringing their kids around early. especially if the weather might turn later and honestly, i probably wouldn't want small kids trick or treating after dark these days. so many crazies come out at nite.

I'm from LI and we never went that early. The earliest was around 4.
I'm glad no one really goes that early around here.

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
I grew up in Michigan and it was always after dark when we went out. We usually had dinner early, and as soon as Dad got home from work he took us around the neighborhood and Mom stayed at home to hand out candy. What's the point of carving a Jack-o-Lantern and lighting it at night if not for the Trick or Treater's? I miss the festivities from when I was young when all the houses were decorated and the neighborhood was filled with all the kids in costumes. We hardly get any kids coming around.

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
Grew up in Levittown and the older we got, the later we went out but I do remember as a kid going out before dinner. I think if I was a parent, I would like to do it during daylight too - esp here where there are no sidewalks and all the kids are walking in the streets.
We've already gone through 3/4 of a large bowl of candy. Five teens, the rest very little kids.

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
I dont think 1pm is that bad. You also got to remember since its a Sat. this year. Everyone is home. Usually its on a weekday and no one is home till after 5pm

When we were kids you went out after school. We only take the kids out after dark when we have to work and don't get home until after 5pm.

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
My boys started at 11AM!!! Then we did our REAL ToT at 1pm with a big group.
It's 6:14 and my kids are done and ready for bed already. I only really take them out after dark if it's a weekday.
I guess you are one of those people who did not answer when we knocked!!!

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
the difference is that it's saturday.
i see nothing wrong with 1pm. we went out around 2 and there were plenty of kids around. especially with young kids, i don't feel comfortable or safe bringing my toddler around after dark.

we always tot after school until dark, if it was a saturday we started earlier. my nieces live upstate and are not going till after they eat dinner after 6pm and my other nieces live in pa and the norm is to go out between 6 and 8 pm. i never liked going tot at night. i liked the daytime better and would feel safer during the day.

That must be why we haven't had any trick or treaters yet. I've had the bowl of candy ready since noonish...

They setup the mall so the kids can run around and the parents don't have to worry about the kids getting hit by a car.... Or whatever happens at night....

Gee, I didn't realize my 3 year old should be out after dark trick or treating I'm sure if I DID have her out after dark, the post would be more like, "Can you believe those parents who drag their 3 year olds around trick or treating after their bedtime???" Sometimes ya can't win!

Well this is NY- not Calfornia Nobody in my neighborhood EVER comes after dark. If it's a weekday it's right after school...on a Saturday it's as early as 1 pm. Why would you want to go after dark? Doesn't seem very safe

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
See, now with it being Saturday I actually expected them to start earlier. I was disappointed they didn't start till 1ish. The littleones all seemed to have come already, now it's just a few teenagers here and there. I'll give them until 10:00 before I turn the light out.
