A re-introduction and a question re: finding childcare
Hi there! I thought I should re-introduce myself since I am an infrequent poster, and don't think I did before. I grew up in Northport, moved to DC for almost a decade, and now DH, DS (who is 7 months) and I just moved back here!
Now for my question for BTDT mommies...I am looking for a nanny/mother's helper to come to my home part-time to help me watch DS while I work (from home). I have been working twenty hours a week without childcare since August and I'm about to lose my mind. It doesn't help that DS is not a particularly good napper so I'm usually working at night.
I'm just not sure how to even start looking. The DC equivalent of LIF has a specific board for nanny searches, but I don't see one here. Anyone have websites, services, or even know of anyone looking for a part-time job?If you have in-home childcare, how did you find it? I'm at a loss, and if I don't find someone soon, I'm going to have to quit my job. I've got a great work-from-home deal, so I'd rather not do that.

I use in-home childcare. I had a babysitter who watched them for 6 mos I found on Craigslist-but she sorta flaked on me. So not sure that is a good reco. My SIL watches them now

Are you near any local colleges? I would post in the halls of local colleges or in their career centers.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm in Nassau so I could certainly post at a few of the colleges. That's actually how I found a nanny job when I was in grad school- totally forgot about that!
DRMom--did you post an ad on craigslist or respond to someone else's ad? I'm a little afraid posting an ad will just bring on a whole bunch of sketchiness...

I posted an ad and stated that I would be checking references and doing a criminal background check. I also searched for others ads under community. You could also try Sitter City.com-I found, in my area, they all wanted $12 and up which I felt was a lot since ALL I wanted was child watching and they took at least 3 hrs of naps a day. I didn't want cleaning, cooking etc,

I'm in the same situation. I'm right in the next room, I'm still going to nurse him, and though isn't the greatest napper, he does nap a few hours a day. A student might be good--maybe they'd take less money for being able to do schoolwork, etc. while he naps. I just need someone to play with him when he's awake, no cleaning or cooking. We'll see what I can find!
