book clubs third grade

This is my first year teaching third grade and we are introducing book clubs tomorrow. We teach using the TC method and I need some help..

How would u describe book clubs to third graders?

What kind of rules would you facilitate for book clubs?

What type of accountable talk prompts would you introduce?

i usually assign roles (discussion director, word finder, summarizer, illustrator, character analyzer) so that they each have someting to "talk to" during the meeting time. they cycle through the roles as we read the book. i teach 4th and it works well. theres always 2 or 3 that are unprepared in the class, but those are the same kids whose hw is never done.

i usually just start with a general conversation about what a book club is- the kids actually "get" the concept pretty easily. then i have them discuss rules that they feel would make them comfortable and most able to participate.

like taking turns, speaking kindly even when disasgreeing, being prepared every time, etc
