Ob/Gyn Rec - PCOS
Hi All!
Thanks in advance for reading and offering your advice.
We're not quite ready to ttc, but I am looking for an amazing ob/gyn who will be aggressive with testing and options.
I am basically willing to travel anywhere in Nassau for a great doctor.
I know there have been lots of posts asking for ob/gyn recommendations, so I hope I'm not asking too much. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 after a break from BC where I did not get AF for several months. I have basically been on BC since that point with several short breaks in between. My current doctor knows a lot about PCOS but is very dismissive whenever I ask about my other options and eventually getting pregnant. Basically his bedside manner is terrible and I walked out of my last appointment in tears. I had a blood work up last year after a short break from bc and everything came back "normal" and I do not have polycystic ovaries.
In short, I need a doctor who is patient, has a great bedside manner, knows a lot about PCOS, and will be aggressive with testing and figuring out exactly what my issues are.
Thank you so much!!! and babydust to all

Re: Ob/Gyn Rec - PCOS
I can't suggest anyone for PCOS. You should crosspost this to infertility. Maybe those ladies will have more suggestions for you. I don't even know if an RE would be more for PCOS?
Best of luck to you no matter what!

Re: Ob/Gyn Rec - PCOS
Welcome!!!
I have PCOS and I absolutely LOVE my doctors!! My OB/GYN is Dr. Dilena and he is located in Garden City. He is absolutely wonderful and I wouldn't want to be under the care of anyone else when I have my children! Although Dr. Dilena is GREAT at what he does, when we began TTC, he wasn't as aggressive/knowledgeable as I would have hoped. After posting on these boards and reading about everyone's stories, I realized that it was time to visit a RE to really understnad my body and monitor my body's every move on meds like Provera and Clomid. I started seeing my RE about 2 weeks ago and we immediately clicked! She was so wonderful in explaining everything to me and really making me feel comfort in knowing that she would do everything to make this happen for us. I highly recommend Dr. Saketos from Reproductive Specialist of NY. I go to their Mineola office, but I believe they have others. There are also 5 other REs in the practice. Good Luck with everything and please FM me if you have any questions!!!!

Re: Ob/Gyn Rec - PCOS
if you already know you have PCOS, when you are ready to TTC i would go straight to an RE. they will be that kind of doctor with care and bedside manner and they will treat the symptoms of PCOS that cause fertility issues. some ob/gyns might do this - but with an RE it's a guarantee.
if you are nervous about it and would rather see an ob/gyn i suggest that you spend a few months off of BCP charting your cycles to see if you are ovulating. if you have PCOS and do ovulate on your own you have a much better shot of getting PG without help. but if you, like many PCOSers, don't O on your own, don't O regularly, or O reallly late in the cycle (past CD25 on a regular basis) you really should go straight to the RE who will help the symptoms causing anovulation AND monitor to you make sure its working. the monitoring part is what many ob/gyns don't do and it's really critical in the treatment, otherwise its just waste of time, money, and hormones if it's not working.
