Tampon only girls!

Anyone else dreading having to wearing a HUGE MONSTER PAD for weeks?!

I haven't worn a pad in YEARS!...I don't even own any full underwear! I have the thong pantiliners if I needed to wear them.

When I walk its gonna sound like I am wearing a diaper!Chat Icon Chat Icon

ANyone know how long pp you can wear a tampon again?

Re: Tampon only girls!

After the first day or two I was able to wear a regular pad - I used always thin. They were just fine.

ETA: you can use a tampon again when you get your first period.

Re: Tampon only girls!

Since I don't get a period, I don't use either... but I'm pretty sure they don't want you using a tampon until after your 6 week PP check up.

And trust me, the amount you will be bleeding, there is no tampon absorbent enough!

Also, just as a suggestion, if your hospital provides you with disposable undies, take as many as you can! I pretty much exclusively used them until my bleeding slowed down.

Re: Tampon only girls!

I am not sure when you can wear a tampon again- I didn't get my period for 8 months because of BFing. As far as the pads go, I feel the same way! I actually packed pads from my first pregnancy, over 3 years ago, in my hospital bag because that's how long they've been sitting around!

Yes!!!! It was terrible the 1st time with my DD... I could NOT wait to stop bleeding because I couldn't take wearing pads! I felt so gross all of the time.

Re: Tampon only girls!

I am so dreading this too! I hate pads I feel like I walk funny when wearing them. I always feel like you can see it too. Really not looking forward to this. You can't use tampons until your first period pp, & after you get the all clear from the OB at your six week check up. I have heard from some BTDT that they tried to use tampons their first period & couldn't b/c it hurt, others said they used them with no problems. I guess it varies person to person.
Can anyone recommend the best pads for after birth? I want to stock up for my hospital bag, and for home. Also how many do you think we need? One big box from BJ's enough?

Re: Tampon only girls!

I hadn't used a pad since 10th grade ( a LOOOOOOOOOONNNNGG time ago...lol) and I just gave birth 13 days ago. I was totally grossed out at the idea of having to wear this huge pad, but honestly it isn't so horrible. I still am wearing a pad, not the huge ones anymore though. I did buy the overnight ones for the first week and then switched to the thin ones. Everyone is different, just go with whats comfortable for you.

If one more person in the hospital told me not to use a tampon for the bleeding, I was going to hurt them. To me it was common sense. Like I was really thinking of putting one "up there" after what I went through Chat Icon

Re: Tampon only girls!

There is no way on this green earth that I would have wanted to use a tampon after birth. I did my best to not feel around down there Chat Icon . Using the pads is not too bad, you'll be fine.

And you can use tampons at your first AF, but you might just have to wear a pad too, AF was THAT heavy.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Try Kotex overnights. They were recommended by my lamaze coach, and they did wonderfully! She was right.

I agree. Honestly the big thick pads weren't a big deal to me, I just changed them really often. They were kind of comfy Chat Icon

Re: Tampon only girls!

Honestly it will likely be one of the last things on your mind. I know that I didn't want to look or touch down there after giving birth, so tampons would have been out even if we could use them. The big pads aren't awful and they really are needed. I would suggest the long overnight ones with wings. I think the ones I used were Always.

Re: Tampon only girls!

After giving birth this was what I was told (and I quote)........"NOTHING in the vagina for 6 weeks". That includes tampons. Honestly, I bled a lot after giving birth and wore the Kotex Overnights and it wasn't so bad. (and I too have not used pads in years) As the bleeding decreased I was able to switch to a maxi thin. The WORST was the hospital pad which is held in place by snaps and a string. AWFUL!!! I was glad to get that off after the first day.

Re: Tampon only girls!

:Raises Hand: I hate pads with a passion although I always wear them at night. I would imagine it would depend on what your OB says. If you have a v-birth with tearing, I wouldn't think you would want a tampon!

With any birth, they are going to tell you nothing up there for 6 weeks. It's because of bacteria issues, and they want you to heal. Seriously, this will be the last thing on your mind...I shudder to think about it.Chat Icon

Re: Tampon only girls!

I was also told nothing in the vagina for 6 weeks so no tampons. I hated the hospital pads - I really like Always Infinity pads - I've never used them before, but they're very thin, the top stays dry, and really absorbent - I think they may be new, but maybe I just didn't notice, being a tampon girl myself.

i bled for 12 weeks (yes you heard me right 12 WEEKS!) i bled 7 weeks pp and then spotted very very lightly for a week had my 1 period which lasted a full 4 weeks! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon so ineeded to wear a pad for the first 7 weeks. i mainly used the Always ultra thin with wings... in the begining i wore always over nights because they were absorbent and were longer and i always have wings because then it stays in place.

i didnt wear granny panties i went and got really cute low cut briefs hanes from target and hipsters they were awesome and really cute... dh even noticed them sometimes i still wear them now so much more comfy!

But the bleeding you have in the beginning is just ridiculous. They give you those skirty bottle things that you can take home and rinse of the who-ha when you need to. So that helps.

I don't remember wearing tampons at all. I think I was afraid to.

Re: Tampon only girls!

I was dreading it also since I have always worn tampons but quite honestly, you don't even realize that you are wearing them (I wore the hospital ones bc they were the BEST). You have so much more going on that you don't focus on the uncomfortable feeling. I was back to wearing regular pads 6 days PP & wore my first tampon at 6 weeks PP
