Has anyone ever been to the Excellence Riviera in Cancun??
My mom and I are looking to get away for a few days. I know it is an adult resort: I just want to make sure it is not just for couples. I am going through a divorce so that wouldn't be good. Thanks so much!

I've been to Excellence Punta Cana and Excellence Playa Mujeres (20 minutes from Riviera). While there are definitely people there that are not couples, the resorts do tend to cater more to couples. You'll mostly see couples on HMs, anniversary trips, etc. Riviera might have fewer couples because it is on the hotel strip in the middle of all the partying.

I went to EPM on my honeymoon and the bathroom is completely open to the rest of the room - big huge glass window from the shower into the rest of the room. Not sure if you'd be sharing the room with your mom. I know I would't be comfortable showering in that setting with my mom around! Not sure if they have that at Excellence Riviera though.

Re: Has anyone ever been to the Excellence Riviera in Cancun??
Was just there in November with H and another couple for our anniversary and LOVED IT! There were a lot of couples but also people who just needed to get away. Looking forward to going again for a girls weekend later this year. Bathroom is part of the room there but the shower door is not glass (at least not in the room we were in). We did some research before we went . . . here's the link if you want. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g240327-i395-k3128700-Excellence_Cancun_or_Playa_Mujeres-Puerto_Morelos_Yucatan_Peninsula.html
Before you book though check with your travel agent and see if they are still running the mystery hotel deal. You won't know if your going to Riviera or PM until you get there but would go to either one in a heartbeat!
Have fun, relax and enjoy the drinks of the day!

I have been to the one in Playa Mujeres...it was mostly couples..but there were groups of ladies.
I just read that you are going through a divorce....while you could totally go with your mom--it does have a "romantic" vibe to it.
I think all adult resorts are kinda "coupley" maybe trying an all inclusive that isnt geared towards adults? It might lend itself to a less "romantic" vibe

The Excellence Riviera Cancun doesn't have an open bathroom like that. The sink and whirlpool tub were part of the bedroom, but the toilet and shower were separate. Overall, DH and I loved our stay there. The grounds were beautiful, the food was great, and the staff was very nice. We truly felt pampered. Of course there were a lot of couples there, but there weren't too many mushy romantic couples walking around. We noticed a lot of guests interacting with other guests, as well some families (all members over 18). It was a really nice hotel, but if you're completely against being around other couples, I would say don't go since it was mostly couples.

Went there for my honeymoon.. overall we were disappointed.. you really don't get what you pay for there and the ocean water is ugly.. looks like what you'd see at Robert Moses, not a tropical vacation. It's definitely a romantic resort geared towards couples... I would look elsewhere if I were you, because there are better "bang for your buck" places and better places for two ladies to relax and vacation.
