3 week old and thrush?
Good Morning all...
Crazy new mom here I have noticed on my DS tongue a large build up of white substance. When I took DS to his dr's appt on Monday I mentioned it to the doc and he said it was milk residue/build up. Well since then it has definitely gotten worse and looks thicker. Also his temperment has changed (very cranky, long screaming fits out of nowhere for no reason) and his breath smells funky too. I don't want to bother the doctor, but I am thinking something is up.
What would you do? Advice is greatly appreciated!!

Re: 3 week old and thrush?
My DS had thrush around 3 weeks old too. You can definitely tell it's thrush if the whole tongue is pretty much covered with that white stuff, especially if it's gotten worse. My ped scraped the tongue to see if it came off and it didn't. That's how she could tell. I would definitely call your ped to see if they can take another look. They gave me a dropper to give to him a couple times a day. It disappeared pretty quickly. Good luck.

call the dr and get the medicine you need to clear it up. Poor thing it does hurt them so don't rub to hard on the tongue it could bleed

Re: 3 week old and thrush?
are you FF or BFing? Yeast is extremely common and really difficiult to erradicate. I would recommend calling your ped, who may prescribe an antifungal. If you prefer to go the natural route, try probiotics (for you if you are BFing or for DC is you are FF) and try Gentian Violet. It's very uncomfortable for the little ones....Good luck.

Re: 3 week old and thrush?
Abby and I both had thrush when I was BFing. It was not easy to clear up. We were each on 2 different types of medication. Id go back to the pediatrician. When it clears up, I suggest new nipples and pacifiers if you use them.

DD had it at that age too! Start by boiling the nipples & bottles after every feeding. If you're BFing you might want to strictly pump for the time being so that you don't get it
Call the ped. They are usually willing to call in the Nystatin or whatever it is called. It took a good month or so for my daughters to be completely cleared up.
GL!
