Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
I'm attempting to give up selfishness. I intend to meditate more and take careful measure of my choices before I act for the next 40 days.. hopefully it will continue on after 40 days. I also am trying to give up laziness. That one is tough.

Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
I think a lot of people feel they need to give up something tangible. I think what both of you (or DH's) are doing is great!
DH said he's giving up beer.

Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
I'm not. I'm going to go to Mass on Sundays. I've been wanting to go back for a long time, this is my incentive to start.

Yes, I agree--in college I would give up things like gosspiping, being bichty etc, and I think it was a much better experience.
It changed my overall behavior more than if I gave up beer or chocolate for 40 days, craving it & counting the days untill Easter the whole time & then jsut revertign to my old habits.
Now, I'm not so religious, but I like the idea of giving up laziness.
I had a friend that would go all out. She went to church every sunday anyway, so she would go every day during lent & would fast on Wednesdays & Fridays.

Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
not sure honestly. I'm on a diet already so I'm not sure what else to give up. I'll come up with something. I may try to limit my cursing.

Gossiping, can't decide about a food based one as well, maybe alcohol or bread. My DH stared at me when I told him alcohol, but I said don't worry we get a dispensation for St. Pat's Day.

Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
Not giving up anything but trying to organize my life. My life (though I love it) is spiralling out of control. I forget stuff, the house is never clean, I feel like i'm running with my head cut off every single day and it all comes down to organization or lack of it.

Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
Ice Cream.
I haven't had good ice cream in years until I came to Germany. Time to give it up. I wanted to give up sweets all together, but that was too unrealistic.

Soda. I give up soda every year. I drink a lot of soda so that's the biggest sacrifice for me.

Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
I am giving up yelling at DH and he is doing the same. Not that we are really evil to each other but we have a tendancy to raise our voices (often).
Therefore, we are attempting to be kinder to each other and no yelling allowed.
Mama Mia...this will be hard.

This would be so hard for me. There are so many foods that just need cheese! Pasta, eggs, chicken parm, cheddar bisquits.

Re: What are you giving up for Lent?
I think I posted this on another thread but instead of giving up I am trying to just be a better person.
I say it every year and I am hoping this year I follow through.
One of the big things will be going to mass every week. I went last night so that is step 1.
