Bible
I want to buy a Bible (haven't had one in years). The last time I tried reading one, I just couldn't really grasp it. It sounds silly to say. I hear people quoting it, and am pulled into it. How do I get that when I'm reading it? What Bible do you have? In my life right now I'm struggling a bit and really need His help. I would love the daily boost from the Bible. Any clarity would help.

Re: Bible
There are so many versions/editions out there, I think it might be hard to recommend one that would be a good fit. You might want to go to a book store (B&N, or an independent near you) and just take a look at the ones they have there. Each is written in a slightly different voice. After leafing through some, one might just speak to you and may be easier to read than another. There are even companion books out there that have you read a passage and then, almost like homework, ask you questions about what you read, so you get to think a bit deeper about it.

yes! the versions are "mostly" the type of language used. some might just read easier. i think the idea of looking/leafing through a few different translations would be a great place to start
i just googled "bible translation comparison" and got THIS i hope this helps

I asked my husband to read the bible, and this is what he is reading. He also has a companion 'study guide' that helps when he doesn't understand something.
This might sound really silly - but my gf read a children's bible before she attempted to read the 'real' bible. It helped for her to have a basic grasp on what the stories were before diving in.

Re: Bible
The New Living Translation is a very good one and I think it would help you alot, it has daily readings and passages for specific things you might be going through. Hope this helps!

Re: Bible
I have a zillion bibles. The Oxford Study bible is really great, because it's annotated as someone said before, but it's not super user-friendly.
Because I teach CCD, one of the priests I work with gave me a Bible called "Break Through!" It's a bible aimed at teens/young adults. I wasn't een teaching that age range at the time, but he likes to use that bible even for adults. It's a little juvenile, but it's really user friendly and has little stories and explanations. I really like it.

Re: Bible
Amazon has a Bible Store that sorts the Bibles by translation & by type. I agree with the comment above, a devotional Bible might be what you are lookin for if you are looking for strength & guidance, more than studying the Bible from a scholarly perspective.

Re: Bible
The New International Version is great. It is very user friendly, and comes with many different devotionals. I own this one and it's been very helpful and comforting.

Re: Bible
good for you for wanting to start reading it! i am trying to do so as well.
If you're Catholic, you may want to try the New American version of the Bible. The NIV, St. James Bible and other versions are Protestant Bibles. Interestingly, there are books within the Catholic bible that are not in the Protestant versions.
