Re: Tattoo'd People...??
I have a tattoo on my wrist. It wasn't terrible. The ones on my lower back were the worst. But I must admit it was cinco de mayo so we had quite a few drinks before hand. That may have eased a bit of pain. I do not regret it and if I have to cover it up I'll throw a bracelet on.

Re: Tattoo'd People...??
hmmmmmmmmm - i was almost sold on the ankle - but now i'm thinking maybe wrist.... I am an office manager - so i'm not in a 'customer facing' profession....and a wrist one could be covered up with sleeves & a watch...
i'm so confused!
i cannot thank you all enough for your comments!!!

Re: Tattoo'd People...??
I have one on the inside of my wrist, our monogram w/ our wedding date, and also and ankle/foot/leg tattoo, its a rosary that wraps around my ankle and up the back of my calf w/ the cross going down the top of my foot.
The wrist tattoo i just had to have touched up a bit b/c the black and grey was fading a bit.
The one on my ankle is sitll bright and vibrant 4 years later.

Re: Tattoo'd People...??
I have one on the inside of my left ankle and I have no issues shaving. I've also been waxed over it. Basically you just can't shave the tattoo for a few weeks.
I also have one on the inside of my right wrist (which I might add to). I will get one one my left wrist, just haven't decided what yet.
I don't regret either. I love all my tattoos.

Re: Tattoo'd People...??
i have several tattoos all over, including one on my ankle. I'd say it was actually one of the lesser painful ones that i've gotten (back, all up my side, full leg, and shoulder blade are the others). For me, it doesn't hurt as much when going over the bone, i sort of like the vibrations. But i know for some people it really hurts when they are tattooed directly over a bone. For me, the more tender fleshy areas tend to hurt more than the bony areas, so i'd think a wrist would hurt a little more on me.
But from what it sounds like you're thinking of getting, any discomfort would be short lived and its a small price to pay for getting one.
The location is really up to you - as others have said, you can cover up the ankle one a little easier if that's something you're concerned about. Wrist tattoos are much more common now so unless you're in a very corporate profession where that would be frowned upon, i'm not sure it would matter as much.
have fun and remember.. once you get one, you can't stop and you'll want more!

Re: Tattoo'd People...??
I have a tattoo that goes all the way around my ankle. I've had it for 12 years now and never had any problem with shaving or anything. It's a little faded but all of mine are faded regardless of where they are.

I have one on my ankle. Not taking care of it affects the quality. You have to maintain it, despite shaving.

Re: Tattoo'd People...??
i can't thank you tattoo'd folks enough! dave (my husband) says he thinks anklets are sexy - so i may go that way - since i'm really & truly 100% torn!
i already have two...so this will make 3 for me - but honestly, it will be the most meaningful one.
I have two kanji symbols - one meaning creative & the other is the symbol for loyalty - that my best friend of 20+ years & i got matching ones.

I have one on my ankle. I would not do it again. Not because it's painful just a personal decision.

I agree with this. Always putting sunscreen on it when you're going in the sun is a huge help for decreasing fading.

i think it's a great idea! i love the font too i have 3 tattoos and have been contemplating getting Riley's name on my inner wrist soon. i say go for it! not sure if this will be your 1st tattoo, but so many people say make sure of it so you don't regret it, and i was worried about this, also, but after awhile, your tatttoos become a part of your body..like when i look at my foot, i don't just see the tattoo anymore like i did in the beginning; now i just see my foot. if that makes sense? lol
i think it is just a beautiful thing - to have your child's name on you.
good luck & be sure to post pics if/when you get it done!!

Re: Tattoo'd People...?? - updated (in OP) with photo of my idea (kinda)...
I'd say for what you're looking to get, you'd probably be better off getting it on your ankle. Especially since Dave thinks they're sexy! lol Shaving should have no effect on the tattoo whatsoever.
I have a tattoo on both my inner wrist and my inner ankle. They were both annoying but I wouldn't say one was more painful than the other.
The one I got on my inner wrist represents our new family... DH, Me, and Lucy. I plan to add a heart for each future child.
