Re: who doesnt have power still??
I have power, but my Optimum is still out and they say it's related to an area power outage. I'm in Farmingdale. Everyone I know who is still without power was told by LIPA that they won't have power until Tuesday.

Re: who doesnt have power still??
Haven't had power since Saturday afternoon.
Still none and by the amount of downed power lines by my complex, something tells me I won't have any power today or tomorrow.
Our food from the fridge is sitting in a cooler with ice.
ETA: I'm in south Bay Shore -- a few blocks north of the marina. No one has power at all in that area.

Re: who doesnt have power still??
I have a tree hanging on a power wire. LIPA laughed at me. Said they have no idea when they will get to it.
I guess when my tree takes down the line and my whole block goes out they will put me on the list.

Re: who doesnt have power still??
I have been without power since Saturday evening... still without power and I am absolutely LIVID over this. I am not even in an area that was hit hard (like the south shore). I am in the Plainview/Old Bethpage area.
LIPA is going to pay for this.
Anyone that was affected by this storm for more than 24 hours should call LIPA and ask for the claim form to get reinbursed for stuff like perishable food you lost.
LIPA already told me they won't pay out any claims on this as they are considering it an "act of god". The woman didn't even want to send me the claim form and I had to demand her to send it. I really don't care. I demanded they send me the form so when they deny my claim, I have written proof that I tried to work it out amicably with them and i'll file suit.
The more people that submit claim forms (so LIPA can deny them), the more notice the media will take on this and evil LIPA.
I don't even care if I file suit and lose the case in court, i'll make them eat their attorney fees. I can see if I was in an area that had a down tree fell on my house or even in my area. But we had no such crazy damage. No blocked roads. No downed lines.
I'd have more sympathy if I CHOSE to use LIPA (like I CHOOSE to use Cablevision). Long Islanders as customers have NO CHOICE regarding who we can use for electric. We pay some of the HIGHEST RATES in the nation (close to 20 cents a kWh). And this is the kind of service we get? We barely had a storm touch down at 70mph gusts and we have this kind of "severe outage"?
I laugh at LIPA who compares this storm to hurricane Gloria. Are you kidding me? Gloria was 115MPH plus wind category 3 hurricane. This storm didn't even qualify to be named.

I gotta ask- are you ALWAYS looking for "free money" by using the court systems? I mean, do a search of your name and there are 4 pages of you either talking about suing people, threatening to sue people, or encouraging people to sue people.
Considering the amount of damage done, this weather event COULD be compared to Hurricane Gloria. Most storm severity is determined after the fact when looking at amount of damage done.

Re: who doesnt have power still??
My IL's still don't and they live in Malverne.
LIPA is doing the best they can under the circumstances. They brought in crew from as far away as Michigan.
It is not their fault that trees fell on lines or that power lines fell or poles!!!

I was only 3 for Gloria BUT so far everyone around me has said that this was MUCH worse than Gloria was.
And nerdy little tidbit. . . LIPA was formed b/c people were unhappy with how LI Electric Company dealt with the aftermath of that hurricane.

You young'un! I remember Gloria. We were actually supposed to go upstate to some dude ranch (Heath- what was it called?) and planned to cancel. But, the damage to the south shore was so minimal, that my parents decided to make the trek just as the storm was ending.
We were 1 of like 6 families at the whole resort! It was awesome.

OMG That is awful!
I should take pics of my street.
I'm annoyed that we still don't have power since Sat. afternoon....but I know that trees falling and what not is not something they can help, if it's all over the island.
So I'm just being patient and keeping my food on ice.
I will of course ask for a credit on my bill for not having any service on these days of no power--but that's about as far as I think I deserve to go.

While I agree with you that we don't get to choose our electric company, this was not LIPA's fault. This was an act of God. We're not in Hurricane season so it won't be named. It's a Nor'easter.
