ABA Certification
My cousin is graduating with her Master in Special Education. She is going to apply to various agencies to work in EI and CPSE. I think she is also interested in ABA. How can she go about being certified? Is it an additional degree or school program? Any info would be great!

Re: ABA Certification
if she is interested in becoming a board certified behavior analyst she can go to: www.bacb.com
to learn about the requirements. there is no "aba certification".
there are also graduate programs in applied behavior analysis: grad programs
alot of agencies have their own training programs too.
you should fm lipglossjunky73 for more info-she is in the field alot more than i am at this time!

Do ABA therapists work specifically with children with autism? Or children with ADHD and other disabilities?
She has her undergrad in psychology and is getting her masters in spec ed. I am thinking she would probably want to get on board with an agency and go through their training program.
thanks...I will pass the info. on.

Re: ABA Certification
I have my masters in special ed and I work with an agency that provides ABA to children with Autism only. Usually ABA is for children with Autism. Also, I am only certified grades 1-6 so I am not able to do EI and CPSE...will your cousin be certified Birth-12? You have to be certified at least Birth-2 in order to do EI and CPSE. I want to go back to school to get this. But as of now I only work with school aged children.

Re: ABA Certification
I work as a ABA provider with EI, CPSE, and school age children. Most of the agencies provide training to new therapists who want to learn ABA. Most formal ABA services are provided to children with autism. However, the basic principals and techniques can, and should be used when working with children in general, with or without special needs. HTH!
