I have never heard of this either. Are you sure it's not the follitism Pen or the Trigger shot? Dr. B never even gave me an option of injectible femara.

Re: Dumb questions about injectable femera

Femara is a pill, similar to clomid. It is not an injectible and should be covered by insurance since it really isn't a fertility drug but is used as such.

Injectibles typically work better, if only because when you are on them your body produces more eggs, and thus more "targets" for the sperm. I have also heard that injectibles can improve egg quality, but I'm not sure.

Good luck!

Yes! I was on the injectables and Femara at the same time. That's what did the trick for me. the Femara alone did not work.

There are a few injectable FSH. The 2 most popular are probably gonal-F & Follistim. Once I paid my yearly deducible of $500 for prescription meds, my gonal-F was covered. Follistim for some reason is NOT covered under my plan. All insurance companies are different. I can only use Freedom or Kraupners. My insurance will not cover if it is gotten from a CVS or Rite-Aid. I went with Freedom because that is who my RE sent the script to. They were WONDERFUL to work with. The only down side is that they deliver via FedEx and someone must be home to sign for the delivery as they come in a box with ice packs since the gonal-F needs to be refridgerated.

yes sometimes. the second cycle he gave me gonal-f instead (based on what he had in stock) but for whatever reason it didnt work at all for me. even though there is only the slightest chemical difference between follistim and gonal-f, the follistim works right away for me and the gonal-f did nothing for the 2 weeks i was on it.

most of the meds he has on hand are donated by people who did cycles and didnt need them anymore.

good luck!!

I'm not sure about the follistim, my insurance doesn't cover it. I took gonal-F, and a TON of it! About 2000iu this cycle Chat Icon From CD3-CD21 which was about 2 1/4 900iu pens. My Dr wrote the Rx out to be 2, 900iu pens with 2 refills. Once my deductible was hit, my co-pay for the gonal-F was $25.
