Ugh, still no schedule at 3 months

I know I was spoiled with DS who was on a schedule by 8/9 weeks old but I can't figure this kid out. The only thing that is semi-consistent is her feeding schedule, she eats about every 4 hours. Naps are ALL over the place, she rarely gives me "I'm tired" signs other than fussing and getting her down is an absolute nightmare sometimes. Other times she's a dream! Once she's down for the night she is usually good to go, with the occasional need for me to replace the paci, but that's it. It's the daytime schedule I need help with. I'll take any and all advice!

Oh and why does she think it's okay to go to bed at 9 or 10pm? I want to be in bed wayyy before that, like 8 pm Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am a horrible mommy because I can't wait for her to be 6 months old so I can CIO Chat Icon

DD is 4 months and still doesn't have a set schedule. She is a super light eater so I constantly have a bottle around with me to shove in her mouth to get her to drink an ounce or two. It's not like it's "every 3-4 hrs" its more like every 1 or 2 or 3 etc lol
Ohand she does NOT fall asleep before 11pm. And if she does, she wakes up before 11 and will stay awake til 1am Chat Icon

Dont even get my started on her naps...or lack thereofChat Icon

Re: Ugh, still no schedule at 3 months

Joey was on a set feeding schedule by then too but naps were ALL over the farkin place!! I finally tried the 2 hour rule, no matter what (unless of course he was tired sooner). He still doesn't have an exact nap hour(s) but naps every 3 hours now.

He also was NOT a good napper, half hour here and there but once I began doing the 2 hour rule he got better b/c it was a "schedule" of sorts which he obviously did better on.

As far as bedtime, it was around this time we started a nighttime routine, do you have one with her? It was book, bottle-we fed in the dark, music was on, (at the time he was swaddled). He began to have an awful witching hour around 7ish, so I took his cue and realized he was just DONE for the day, so we made that his bedtime and he's been going down at 7, since. (we did dream feed at 11 at the time)

Re: Ugh, still no schedule at 3 months

I was just thinking this with DS. IN the am like clockwork, 2 hrs after getting up - he naps for 20/30 min. He was napping regularly 11:30/12 a chunky one and then around 4pm, but once he hit 4 months it seems to have gone away and naps are all over the place, plus the teething doesn't help. I try to at least have the am nap and bedtime be a routine - still figuring out the new nap situation.

Meh- half the battle (to me) is getting that night time sleep down. I remember daytimes being pretty screwy until about 5-6 months old. You've got the hardest part down by having good sleep at night.

I can;t believe she's 3 months old!!!!

Re: Ugh, still no schedule at 3 months

haha I remember that.. i remember seeing all you mommies talk about how your 3mo olds were on 'schedules' haha

I learned to 'give up' and 'give in'. Just go with the flow. Its only a few months and she's so darned precious its hard to say no. That's how I looked at it. Especially since she's so pretty when she is finally sleeping.

As far as late night time. Well just from personal experience AJ never went to bed before 8pm. Ever. Still doesn't. I'm happy to get her started at the night routine around 9pm. But realistically I know that pushing her any earlier only ticks her off and makes sleepy time impossible. Its like pushing her makes her vindictively stay up even later and be even crankier. So again, I learned to go with HER flow.

Each kid is different.

Best of luck!

Ugh! I'm sooo glad to hear that it's not only DS who has difficulty with his sleep schedule. We tried the whole routine thing. It worked for a little while and then all of a sudden he decides that he wants to fall asleep around 1 am Chat Icon Chat Icon I don't get it!! naps are all over the place and yeah we'll be happy if he goes to sleep at 10:30 pm!

Maybe I should catch some Chat Icon Chat Icon before he decides to wake up in a couple of hours!

Re: Ugh, still no schedule at 3 months

We are no where near scheduled naps during the day. Its whenever DS shows cues, I soothe and put him down. Trying to figure this out by keeping a log. But he seems to want to play 2 hours then sleep 2 hours, then eat. He eats every 4 hours on schedule too, but only 4 times a day.

I read the book "Healthy sleep habits, Happy Child" and if nothing else, it really helped me understand the natural waking/sleeping patterns.

Jaxon is finally on a schedule for both napping and eating. He eats every 4 hrs but only 4 times a day which Im hpoing is enought. He just starting napping at the same time everyday last week. I kept a long of when he sleeps and tries to get rid of all of his little cat naps by playing with him and keeping him up. It worked pretty good. All of his naps are 2-3 hrs long now.

Re: Ugh, still no schedule at 3 months

DS is 3 days away from 4 months old and still doesn't have a daytime schedule. He's taking a bottle every 3-4 hours (trying to keep it closer to 4 hours sinces he's sucking down 7 ounces!) but his naps are still all over the place and only last 30-40 minutes. I try to put him down after he's been awake for 2 hours or so but that doesn't always work.
Normally this no schedule thing would drive me crazy but he's so easy going that I kind of just go with the flow. It seems to work out with DS1's schedule so it's not a big problem. If he were on a stricter schedule it would probably prevent me from doing more things with DS1. I just hope that by the time DS2 is down to one nap a day, DS1 is still taking a nap so I can have some serious downtime!

Re: Ugh, still no schedule at 3 months

DD is almost 3 months old and is nowhere near on a schedule.

we try, but really, I don't have the energy to get her on one. To me it almost doesn't matter because we are getting 5-6 hours at night.

hang in there
