I was speaking to a mom at dance class last night & she was completely up on everything....

She's read the teachers' contracts, knows the pensions, how much the teachers make (seethoughny.net) knows how much they have allocated for kindergarten vs the football team's uniforms getting dry cleaned.

I was Chat Icon & Chat Icon that she was so involved and more than Chat Icon that I had no clue. I seriously need to get more involved.

So I'm wondering...how involved are you?

Not Very. I'm very involved in the day to day of my kids schooling - but embarrassingly lax about the business of the district outside of how it impacts the students directly.

Not very DH goes to most of the budget meetings but that is the extent of our involvement.

Is this women a member of the districts Budget Advisory Committee? We have a handful of people in our school that are up on everything concerning the budget, they report various things to the PTA and are really the "eyes & ears of the people".

Probably much more involved than the school would like, considering my office handles complaints about the local school districts on a daily basis - I know more about the inner workings of each local district, and status of outstanding complaints, than your average parent Chat Icon

not very, but i do find that when i sit at my DD's dance classes i find out alot about the school dirtricts, since there are alot of teachers and pta who's children go there. And they seem to know whats going on everywhere. So i just get my info from them.
That's my extent of being involved!Chat Icon

I am very involed in PTA, but as far as the board of ed goes, WAY too "political" for my tastes. Our district emails the minutes of each BOE meeting to PTA members, so I do read through those when I get them, but as far as attending a meeting, forget it.

I'm involved enough. It's a charter school with 100% parent involvement so regardless we all have to be on the up and up. I'm part of the board and committee and well as volunteer every other week for both schools (2 in two seperate schools). However, I don't know what the teachers eat.Chat Icon
