hard wood or tile
is there a big price difference between installing hard wood floors and installing tile. Im trying to decide what i want in my kitchen. the whole house is hard wood except the kitchen and a new floor is needed right now there is 1980's brown lanoleum its horrible

personally i rather tile in a kitchen... i feel that wood is too absorbent.... could just be a mental thing.... but i wouldn't worry so much if i dropped oil etc on tile...

I have wood floors in my kitchen and I love how it looks- plus its so much easier on your feet when you are standing for a long time
eta- its also super easy to clean- no grote lines!
We had a rather substantial leak last year from our washer and it didnt damage the floors at all- as long as they are finished and have enough poly-urethane on them, you'll be fine

ITA we added wood in our kitchen and couldnt be happier. No grout to deal with!!!

We put hardwood floors in our old house and I loved the look. Never had any problems with them whatsoever.

I'm a big tile fan for kitchen. I have hardwoods in my formal livingroom and diningroom but my front hall, center hall and kitchen all have tile and I love it. I think with 2 kids and a big dog it would have been ruined by now. For us it's just more practical...
