Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
OK im seeing (and hearing from non-LIF moms) that many DCs around my son's age (8 mons) are eating table food. I JUST started giving Will puffs YESTERDAY. Other than that he stil eats cereal and baby food. He is actually starting Yo Baby Yogurt today.
My ped hasnt at all mentioned table foods. He hasnt even started meats. Im scared to death to give him table foods. I cant even imagine.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
your not alone - my ds is 9 months and he is only doing cheerios, puffs, ice cream and yogurt as table food. We started solids late and he has been having a hard time with them.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
I'll just say I'm only giving him so much b/c he's my second child and I'm more relaxed with it.
I always joke, Ryan was 9 months when I gave him 1/4 cheerio, and Colin was having some of my pork chops at 7 months. We started him on full cheerios at 6 months.
I was just braver and he def. was more eager to have what we were all having. Plus, the difference is, at least I think, is that we all eat together now (dinner). With Ryan, I was home too late at that stage in his life, so DH fed him before I got home and then DH and I ate late night. Makes a difference that we all sit down and Colin sees his big brother tackling a plate of food - he wants in on it
ETS: He also is doing great with table food. Not every baby does. Some have a more difficult time with their gag reflex - it just is what it is and for that child, obviously you need to take it slower. I think, b/c Colin showed an early interest, I'm braver with him and he does well with it - it all contributed to him getting as much as he does.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
I started giving DS table food in the 8th month. I hadn't even planned it. I had made myself some lunch and the feeling just hit me. It suddenly felt like the right time. I gave him some and he loved it. Do what's right for you, but pay attention to his signs. If he stares at your food and shows interest in what you're eating, try sharing. You might be pleasantly surprised at how well recieved it is.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
DD was a late teether and our ped said not to try table foods until she got teeth. She didn't get teeth until almost 10 months so we didn't start table food until after that. She was still on mostly baby food/cereal until 12 months.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
DD still had a pretty bad gag reflex at 8/9 months and didn't really start eating table food until closer to 10 months. Now at almost 1 year she eats everything and shovels it in!

My ped. says table foods a 9 months. I started Joey with puffs a few weeks ago and here and there I give him a few things (like cheese)
I still haven't even done yogurt.
I don't think we're behind

I agree with this. I am a nervous wreck and I give him tiny bites, but he won't eat "baby" food lol. he gets mad if he can't chew. and he wants his food to resemble mine or there is hell to pay.
he was interested early and I started him early. I've been following his lead. don't feel the need to speed up the process. I still haven't given meat.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
DS is 9mo and i haven't started him on any table food. our feeding schedule from the PED says we can start at this stage with scrambled eggs..i forget if its yolk only or whites.
i tried puffs and he didnt like it. i tried a cheerio here and there and he makes an awful face. So im not sure if he's really ready. I've given him a few spoons of my fruit smoothies here and there and a tad of vanilla icecream and he loves that.
DS was so sensitive in the beginning with his stomach, that i too am deathly afraid of table food. Im going to go at my own pace and talk to the dr. at his 9mo checkup next week.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
I would go by your peds reccomendation or what YOU feel is best for your baby. I started table foods at 1 even though ped had said I could do a few things at 9 months.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
I have only tried a few things with DS. I started puffs at 7 months, he gagged. I tried them again last month and he is ok if I break them into small pieces. He has only had mashed potatoes from KFC. This past weekend, I gave him a little tiny piece of banana and he gagged. He has a very sensitive gag reflex. He is 9 months old and I don't plan on trying anything new for a while. Once in a while I will get him dairy and soy free yogurt...For now he is still on Stage 2 baby food...

I don't think you're behind.
Now that I've given my DD a taste of table foods, it's all she wants.
Go at whatever pace you and your ped are comfortable with.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
I don't think you're behind. Everyone is different when it comes to starting their kids on table food. In my case my DD did solids and baby foods starting at 4 months. By 6 months she started eating table foods and by 9 months she mostly on all table food with the occasional jar of baby veggies or fruit as a supplement. It's nerve racking to start real food however, they won't ever learn to chew unless you give them the opportunity to practice. KWIM? My DD didn't have a single tooth until she was a year old and she ate everything just fine.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
I started giving DD puffs/cheerios around 6 months, she wanted nothing to do with it until closer to 9 months.
I actually waited until my ped said it was okay to start her on other table foods (which was at her 9 month well visit). She had meat for the first time on Thanksgiving she was 2 weeks shy of 10 months at that point.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
DS was 11 mos old before he had a chererio at my house (think the babysitter gave him some though)...
Anyway, I took a CPR class w/ husband, my mom and MIL before we started solid foods.
As far as meats go - once you start with other solid foods, you'll see how DC does and go at his pace.
My DS wouldn't eat meat - I had to make chicken meatballs - bite size b/c he'd pull them apart if they were cut.
Now he LOVES steak! (2 1/2 y/o)

DD didn't really start eating table food until her first b-day. Go at your (and his) own pace and don't worry about everyone else's kids.

DS is 8 months and still on jar food, no puffs even. I think you are fine.
I didn't start food until 6 months, there is plenty of time.

my 6 month old is eating cheerios and yogurt. Also, pureed meats and what not.
Go at your own pace, you have to be comfortable.

There is no reason to rush. For the first year of a baby's life, most nutrition comes from breast milk/formula. You have to go at your own pace and you know your baby best.

same here. DD eats practically everything we eat even though she has no teeth DD wants whatever DS (2yo) has, and she handles it great.
DD self feeds beautifully and is learning to use a spoon all on her own. i hope to have her weaned from the bottle and all baby food within 3 months, just like her brother was.

Re: Spinoff to table food.... Am i behind??
Sadie was never a "gagger" so I gave her things early. I have been around babies that choke and gag a lot and if she was like that I wouldnt have been so daring.
