Re: tonsils???
I had mine out a couple of years ago, in fact..i had mine out the same day my DD did, and my DH had his a year later. We kept getting strep throat.
I was fine for 2 days..3rd day, and omg, my throat was on fire. I can take pain, and it was pretty bad. I started to feel better on day 13. I didn't return to work for 3 weeks. I lost about 15lbs also. I didn't have to worry much about DD, she was around 7, and my DH took off of work for 2 weeks.Looking back, it was worth it, I haven't been sick since.
Recovery is def rough, you will be miserable.
My DD on the other hand, was eating on day 3 and taking care of me with DH,lol.

Re: tonsils???
I had them taken out when I was 24. It was pretty painful; drinking anything at all hurt; the only thing I could really swallow was jello for close to a week. I was out of work a week, then it just felt like a sore throat afterward. Take the pain meds they give you (but ask for it in liquid form - the pills are hard to swallow). Oh, and the whole "ice cream" thing is a LIE. It's too thick (tmi, but you'll be all phlegmy & gross for days), and too cold.
