Please help...getting rid of bottle
My DD is 10 1/2 months old and I am so scared of getting rid of the bottle. She drinks water from a sippy cup, but she loves her bottle before she goes to bed. She does not fall asleep while drinking it, but needs it inorder to sleep. I know I created a monster. What should I do now in preparation for giving it up in a month? I am open to any suggestions.

Re: Please help...getting rid of bottle
I don't believe that most people stick to the year rule anymore. My son was off bottles fully by 15 months (and he was ADDICTED to them) I just slowly eliminated them one by one.
My second son doesn't seem to have any attachment at all to them so I'm not as worried this time around.

Re: Please help...getting rid of bottle
DS refused pretty much anything from the sippy but at 1yr we went cold turkey to milk and the sippy and after 2 days he was fine.

Re: Please help...getting rid of bottle
I was adamant about having my dd off bottles by a year old, and she was. Looking back, I really don't know why I was so adamant about it. What's the big deal if you take longer? Do what works for you. We went cold turkey and my DD didn't care, but should my son seem like he still wants it at a year, I really won't stress about it. And you shouldn't either!

Re: Please help...getting rid of bottle
Exactly like PP said...go with what is right. My DD had no problem giving up her bottle on her year birthday---right to sippy; no issues.
DS is 15 months & still loves his bottle. I'm going to try to take it away by 18 months; but there's no rush.

Re: Please help...getting rid of bottle
My DD was on it till she was past 1 because we had a terrible time getting her to sleep. We finally bit the bullet and just took it. Couple of rough days and then she was fine.

Re: Please help...getting rid of bottle
I told my DD when she was 13 months that the garbage man needed baba's for his new baby. Worked like a charm...she waved every time she saw them, sayin bye baba. I think it would have been harder if she was younger.

Re: Please help...getting rid of bottle
DS is 10 1/2 months. I've tried a few times but it hasn't gone well. He just isn't ready and I really don't see the big deal even though the doctor wants him off by one year. It just seems like it's not worth the battle.
