I keep seeing the commercial for the flu shot all over the TV. I never got one and discussed it with the ob yest and she said it was completely up to me and I can ask my general practitioner if I wanted to get it.
Are you ladies getting one??

Re: Flu Shot

I was gonna post this same question. I never get the flu shot, but my doctor actually did recommend it for me since I work with kids and am more prone to catching something. I still feel a little nervous about it, but she said it's perfectly fine. Not sure if I want to get the N1H1 tho.

Re: Flu Shot

I am going to get one....I think with a winter baby it's totally necessary..

I am also curious about whooping cough! they say their was an epidemic in California and it's moving East...definitely something to think about.

I'll most likely get one. I actually forgot to ask my dr at my appt last week.
I don't get one every year--more like when I remember to do so. I got it last year though when TTC. But besides the risk of getting the flu while I'm still pregnant, I also don't want to get the flu when I'm home with a newborn this winter.

I will be getting the flu shot. It's very important pregnant women get immunized.

Yes, I asked my doctor about it last visit. He said just make sure you ask for the mercury free (i told him that I was going to CVS for it)

Re: Flu Shot

I'm definitely getting it soon. My OB said to wait until October since flu season starts a little later down here in NC and he wants me to be at the peak of protected when flu season is at its peak.

H1N1 is in the regular flu shot this year as someone else mentioned.

I'll be getting one. Unfortunately, I can't get the pertussis vaccine because as a child I had an allergic reaction to the immunization. I'm actually really worried about whooping cough since I have no antibodies against it. I'm going to try and talk to my doctor about it to see if there are some other options.

Re: Flu Shot

I asked this recently too. I work in a school but have never had one. Neither has DH. My midwife recommended that we get it, but I admit, I'm worried. Vaccines are usually preserved in forms of mercury, and I can't imagine that that's good for a developing fetus...

exactly my thoughts - which is why I feel a little nervous. But i probably SHOULD since I work with children who's parents NEVER keep them home no matter how sick they are. Chat Icon I just don't want to do anything potentially harmful tho

Re: Flu Shot

I will be getting one. My OB said that it was important to get since getting a fever (which is very common with the flu) can be dangerous to the fetus if the fever gets too high. I generally don't get a flu shot because in the past I have gotten the flu (even though the doctor says that is impossible - whatever), but I got it just in case last year since we were TTCing. I was the only one at my location who did not end up with the flu last year! I don't have a very strong immune system so I usually get everything that is going around. Last winter was my healthiest one yet!

Most, if not all, OBs carry the thimerosal free flu vaccines. If you're getting it through your PCP then be sure to request that. Sometimes they only receive it in limited quantities so ask early.

I asked my OB about this today and he said he thinks it would be a good idea. Im still debating though because Ive never got the flu shot nor have I ever gotten the flu. Im a little nervous about getting it while im pregnant especially with the H1N1 being in it because it is fairly new.

Re: Flu Shot

I've had the flu twice and I'm around kids all day long so I'm going to get it. I'm even thinking of making DH get it. My dog even got the flu vaccine last week at his vet appointment!
