BTDT Questions...TIA!

I had my 38 week internal yesterday and I'm almost 70% effaced but still only 1cm dilated... I'm curious as to when the dilation really kicks in?!?!? I feel like 70% effaced is considerable, is it? And another question is, I know its normal to spot a little after an internal but I'm still spotting over 24 hours after. I've also been cramping pretty badly since Friday night, is this normal for 38 weeks? Or could this be something else to start monitoring a little closer? Also about 4 hours after my internal my spotting got considerably heavier and a lot redder but then is back to lighter and browner. I'm just curious if anyone else had similar symptons and if so, what happens next?? Thank you so much for all insight!!!

That is all really normal...it sounds like you're well on your way to popping!! Even though you are 70% effaced, it still might take a little while for you to dilate and actually go into labor. This can all happen over hours or a couple of days. The spotting is normal too...it could be your mucus plug is coming out, you're starting to dilate, or the internal just got things moving.

Good luck and try not to be too anxious!! Like everybody told me, you will ABSOLUTELY know when you're in labor = )

It all sounds normal for 38 weeks; I remember being EXTREMELY uncomfortable after each of my internals, and it lasted a while. As for effacement, 70% is good, but it doesn't necessarily mean anything. I was 75% & a "fingertip" dialated for weeks, and still went 3 days late. When I got to the hospital in labor, I was only 2 cm.

You're close, though, hopefully things will start happening really soon - Good luck!!!
