Photography Moms ...Which Digital Camera

would you recommend between the Canon Rebel Eos,
Nikon D40x
Canon powershot

or anyy other? (these 3 were recommended to me but would love to get other suggestions)

I currrently have a canon eos rebel that is about 10 years old, it is broken and will cost about $300 to fix so i figured it is time to invest in another.

I never took advantage of all the settings on the camera that i have,
and was about to sign up for a digital photo class at the local college when my camera broke(just my luck!)


so I really want to invest in a good quality camera....thank you!

I have a Pentax K10 - not what most people have, but I had some lenses from my 35mm that were compatible, so I went with it. You should check to see what any old gear you might have would be compatible with now, unless you want to invest in lenses too (if you have any extras).

I have the Canon Rebel T1i and love it. Costco has a great deal on it right now too. It comes with the camera, extra lens, memory card and gadget bag.

You can get a better deal with the Canon T2i right now if you don't mind rebates.

You mention 2 different kind of cameras (point/shoot and DSLR)

You need to decided between those two first.

Im a Canon T1i owner and love Canon.
You will find similar features between both Canon and Nikon.

The D40x has been discontinued for about 2 years and replaced by the D60.

I have that camera. It's a great entry level digital camera but it does have it's limitation. Espcially if you are a more advanced photographer. For example there is no port to connect to an external flash (like an hand held one).

ETA: The Canon Powershot does even belong in the same class as the other 2. It's point and shoot camera. The other 2 are DSLR. Whole different ball park.

i had the canon powershot for 3 years and i loved it!! fast shutterspeed and took great pics. finally pooped out this year after taking literally 12,000 pics!!!

I realized after my OP that the Powershot doesnt belong in the same catagory...
So now after your replies and some research,,
its a toss up between the
Canon Rebel and Nikon D60.....

(thank you for the tip about the deal at Cosctco btw!)

I love my Rebel... but that is b/c I have never tried the Nikon... so IDK...

But the Powershot is really not in the same class... 2 totally different types of cameras...
