My coworker
many of you have heard me drone on about this. Well the whole shade thing is coming to a head.
Yesterday she put the shade up and I put it down to the 1/3 position it was in before. She claimed there is no glare..blah blah..and insisted I didn't compromise. The compromise is that I should be able to tolerate glare in my eyes a part of the day. My compromise is that the shade is partially drawn. I'm not crazy this chick wants it to be the beach.
She raised the thermostat to 80 degrees because she is sick and needs it to be warm. She was wearing a sleeveless dress..no stockings..
I came in today and put the thermostat at 74. Reasonable for an office if not a bit on the warm side. The shad is drawn at 1/3 down.
Today the doc's note is going to be filed with HR and she will know it's on record.
She pleaded with me yesterday that I won't compromise. That she likes our working relationship and doesn't want to fight over this.
We are at an impasse. HR needs to handle it from here.
HR is going to tell her manager. I'm out of it.

Re: My coworker
I just had to run to get her boss coffee because she doesn't get in until after 9. I came back to my desk and the shade is up and I bet you the thermostat is at 80 again.

Re: My coworker
Since she doesn't get in until after 9 most days I help her guys out. I had to schedule a meeting and therefore his assistant had to reschedule the person in that slot. He didn't tell her and neither did I. She declined my meeting (with her boss' boss) and I told her he said he would do it.
I get back to my desk after getting my boss breakfast and she tells me he never said he would do it. She actually has the balls to go into him and say, "when were you going to tell me about rescheduling the other meeting?" Like she's annoyed.
What????? Your whole job is scheduling meetings..rescheduling happens all the time. These are busy people. And since when do you have the balls to decline a meeting from his boss? I can see his calendar, I know he had to reschedule an interview...tough..that's the way it goes. It only had to be moved 30 minutes later.
Really, she thinks who she is. She's here 6 months.
I move heaven and earth every single day as an exec admin. It's my job. I would never walk into my boss' office and say that. If a meeting has to move, so be it.
wow..just wow..

Re: My coworker
I was just told by her boss that I need to play nice and teach her what she should do. I should teach her how to grow and allow her to grow into the role and mature.
Wow...
It was even mentioned that he doesn't need to deal with that right now and please don't make it harder for him.
I need to suck it up I guess.
wow..
I've never been in this spot before.

What does YOUR boss say ? Why should you make things easier for HER boss ? What's in it for you ?

We are going out for drinks just me and him to discuss.
If he wants me to "teach" her then there will be some backup I need.
No upside for me right now except making him happy trickles down to make my boss happy.
He doesn't care that she's not the best..that she's lacking..he's seen it before.
Do I think he's fooling himself? Yep.

Re: My coworker
Yep so me filingmy doctor's note will make it difficult for him. It will cause discourse.
Can someone with a psychology background confirm how messed up this is?
Why do I get to suck it up?
If my boss found out this was going on she would be ******....at everyone including me. Just for causing drama which she hates.
She would defend me though. She has seen it all and knows what I b!tch about and what I don't.

Re: My coworker
I'm glad you went into HR.
Frankly she seems to high maintenance to employ. She'd be moving or you'd be switching positions.
She shouldn't be changing the thermostat at all. Put on a sweater.

Re: My coworker
Just read the rest of this thread now...
I would ask my boss straight out - if we were to fire her tomorrow & I could have her replacement start the same day - would you go for it?
Then I would volunteer to interview people after hours to get her out.

Re: My coworker
Now I overheard her boss talking to HR about it in a generic way and he said I wasn't getting along with her. Now I think I'm fairly liked and secure here but now I'm nervous about me being the one to get kicked out.
I wish this situation never happened.
I can't believe I'm feeling this way. One of the issues is that she feels threatened by me. It's a power struggle. That's the heart of it.
Dammit.

Don't feel that way. She's a total whacko coworker. They'll see.

Re: My coworker
Her boss likes her. They get along. I don't want to add to his angst. He has a lot of angst.
He works for my boss who runs him ragged. He is understaffed and stressed out.
I don't really want her to lose her job but he has to back me up. He has to stand up for me on this stuff.
I'm going to talk to him later since we are both in a different office.

Re: My coworker
Didn't get a chance to chat with him. He seems fine..she is giving me the silent treatment.
I have a feeling she got the same speech..that she has to suck it up and deal with me.
Aside from good morning, that's all we have said to each other all day.
I'm really bummed that we couldn't have this great working relationship. But her high school antics and power struggles are too much to deal with with my work load. It was effecting my work and that is where I draw the line.
I hope they don't fire her but I hope that we can find some common ground.

Re: My coworker
Why dont you and this girl rearrange your seating arrangements. To me it seems like their is lack of effort on both sides. I do agree that there needs to be a compromise to all of this. This would be WAY too dramatic for my office. We are on to bigger and better drama...LOL Key: rearrange...really. for your sake. for her sake.

Re: My coworker
Oh yeah the rearranging of seats has been discussed at length. She insists that I would hate it more switching seats because then the sun would be directly on my screen.
um..no it wouldn't because you would be annoyed at staring at the sun all day too and insist that the shades stay down.
Her boss talked to her at length and he told her she has to do better and listen to me. Yeah, whatever. He's a crappy manager.
On the upside, people are comparing us and clearly she is lacking. He's heard it from others but really likes her and thinks with some coaching she will be great.
I told him what he wanted to hear but she will implode on her own. She just doesn't have the integrity or professionalism to be in this office.
She should work in a boutique where she can wear what she wants and spend an hour in the bathroom adjusting her hair extensions.

LOL... Tell her not to worry about the sun being directly in your face. If her spot is better then yours switch. What is this room set up like that no one can move there desk? there has to be some wall where the back of your head is facing the sun, no? You may be jealous...I have my own office with NOOOOOOO windows Be grateful that you are not a caged prisoner...haha I really hope it works out for you.

Re: My coworker
Moving desks cost money. It's all union crap so they would have to move my PC..etc.
I'm totally fine where I sit. If the shade stays about 1/3 down and temp stays around 72 ish.
Really, am I asking too much?
One of her other managers sent us both a note today asking to set up something monday am for him. I wrote him that if she doesn't respond let me know and I would do it.
She did respond which is unusual for her since she doesn't usually check her blackberry on weekends.
I'm the idiot that checks my blackberry.
I would not like to be in an office with no windows. I did that for a while a few years ago. It was nice to have an office though.
