Lots of Questions

Hi Everyone!

I’m 17 weeks along with the twins now and we really need to start planning on what we need. I already did the big shower thing with DD so DH and I will be purchasing everything for this time around. We don't have the $ to go overboard. I really want to know what the essentials are.

What do I really need 2 of??

What was a lifesaver for you???

What are the necessary "twin" items? I’m sure there are things out there that I have no idea about.

At this point I’m going to try and not find out what the babies are....is that nuts? Did anyone else hold out?

I appreciate any input and advice Chat Icon

Congrats!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

my boys are almost 6 months old so i am sure the other ladies will be much more help.

but what i found my necessities from birth was..

2 bouncers.. (they loved them and were in them all the time.)
1 swing.. not every baby likes the swing.. so i would stick with one for now and if they both love it you can always go out and buy another one.
it got 2 pack N plays.. but really only needed one.
2 boppies.. i used them to feed them both most of the times! it was great!

as far as the big ticket items like strollers..
i thought the double snap and go was amazing and easy , i still use it.
the car seats just pop right on.

hope my feedback helps a little!!
good luck!

Re: Lots of Questions

Congrats!!!

I didn't find out what I was having. It was the best thing ever!

As far as necessities for the beginning - two Boppy pillows, 2 bouncers. One swing. I had the twin PNP. Double snap and go definitely.

For later, I got the City Mini double stroller. One jumperoo and one exersaucer so they could rotate.

Also, I got two bottle props which I use every day.

If you check the parenting buy/sell/swap thread, a lot of people are selling gently used stuff if you are looking to save some money.

Def get two bottle props. I used them every night (and sometimes during the day). It helps to feed both quickly and efficiently.

I also used 2 boppys, 2 bouncers (to sit in), 2 exersaucers (when they get to be the age to go in, it wold be hard to put one in it and not the other), 2 high chairs or booster seats and the double snap n go.

I also had a side by side stroller and a front to back one. I used the front to back one to go shopping and the side by side one for walking around the neighborhood (it was a jogging stroller).

Other then that I had mostly one of everthing else.

Re: Lots of Questions

My babies are only 2.5 months old. I have have 2 or more of everything. I had 1 of everything from my first son and the second item as a hand me down or purchased used.
2 - angelcare monitors
2 - highchairs
2 - swings
3 - boppy pillows
2 - tummy time mats
4 - different kind of seats (2 bouncy, 1 papason, 1 infant-to-toddler rocker)
2 - bumbos
1 - exersaucer
1 - jumparoo

I like have a variety of seats, swings, etc. It is impossible to hold both babies all day - and I don't want to either - so it helps to have these different things to rotate them around in.

I don't have the bottle props but want to get those too.

Re: Lots of Questions

We didn't find out what we were having and it was totally worth it. I bought 1Chat Icon and 1Chat Icon of everything so my dad did some quick exchanges for me once the Chat Icon Chat Icon were born!

We bought 2 and used BOTH:

2 swings (we didn't use them for the first month of so, since then, we've used both every day for naps; we'd be lost if we only had 1)

2 bouncy seats (We put them on the table during meals so the boys could eat w/ us. The boys also slept in them for the 1st month or so.)

2 cribs (I thought I would put the boys in the same crib for the 1st few months but wound up keeping them in separate cribs)

Bought 2 of but didn't use either of them:
Boppy----used them maybe 2-3 times total
Bassinets-----used them maybe 3-4 nights

Bought 1 of and use it often:
exersaucer
jumperoo
play mat
pack-n-play w/ a changer
bumbo seat

For me, the pack-n-play w/ the changer was probably the best thing that we bought. We have a dormered cape and the nursery is on the 2nd floor. We keep the p-n-p on the 1st floor and use it to change the boys----it saves us from running upstairs every time we have to change a diaper. We also keep a lot of back up supplies (bibs, blankets, clothes, etc) in it so we don't have to keep running upstairs.

Re: Lots of Questions

My twins are only 2.5 months old. But, so far, I could not survive without two bouncy seats...they practically live in those things!
I also love having two boppys to use for feeding (we bottle feed), two pack and plays (one downstairs for changing and naps and one in our bedroom for sleeping at night), a diaper caddy for downstairs, the Summer Infant video monitor with two cameras, and my Medela pump (if you will be pumping).
We also just got these things made by Summer Infant that go into bouncy seats, car seats, swings, etc to help smaller babies fit...they are like fluffy inserts. Those have been really great for us, since the twins are still pretty small.

Re: Lots of Questions

I'm waiting for my twins (girl/boy) any day now.

I also have a 3.5 year old so I have tons of stuff from her and borrowed most of everything else. Other items we bought used to save money. I agree with having doubles of most of what everyone says.

One point I wanted to add though -- I'm not sure what kind of house you live in but if you have multiple floors, having 2 or more of some things might make your life easier. I live in a cape with a finished basement which is my den so we live on 3 different floors.

I'm planning to have something on every floor to help me out whether its boppys, bouncy seats, swings, basinets, cribs, pac&plays -- plus a few changes of clothes and diapering stations. I don't want to be tied to one area of my house because I don't have what I need to put them down someplace or be constantly running up and down 2 flights of stairs everytime they need a diaper change or a clean bib.

I'm not saying that I need 6 of everything, but if you can borrow a few extra things it might make your life easier.

You will already be toting the babes around, nevermind the gear that goes with them...

Just a thought...

I agree with Julie. I would have two of everything. Keep the packaging/receipts if after the first couple of weeks you find them not working, return what you don't need. You shoudl buy whatever you can used(for instance the highchairs, bouncies etc.) Get swings that plug in. If you are planning to BF I would get the EZ to Nurse Pillow if you want to nurse together or My breast friend if you will feed seperately. We used to prop them on a boppy and then bunch up a blanket to hold the bottle if we needed to as they got older(around 5-6 months) Good luck!
