Another question: how much does our weight gain affect baby's gain?

So at 31 weeks I'm at 20 pounds up....is it just this that affects baby's current weight (4 lbs, 1 ounce approx) or is it my birth weight (I was preemie, 4 lbs 11 oz) and my DH's too? He was about 8lbs. Just wondering....

I don't think if affects them. I lost weight during my pregnancy and at 39 weeks when dd was born she was 6 lbs 12.5 oz. I was 7 lbs 9 oz and dh was almost 9 lbs.

Re: Another question: how much does our weight gain affect baby's gain?

Depends on geneics. I was a 5lb baby, DS wa 6lbs, we grew up to be short and average heigh people, and always have been.

Ds was estimated to be 10lbs by one tech, because she kept saying his legs and arms are big, but some reason his head is small lol

Anyway, he came out 8lbs and 22", a tall skinny baby with a small head. His head evened out, but he's still a tall skinny baby and it probably coming from my grandads genes, he was 6'4.

Oh you mean the preg weight? I think if you gain a lot it probably because you LO is growing a lot. I gained 45lbs. Lost 30 in 1 day. Dr said it was a lot of water, but my hand and feet never swollen,

Re: Another question: how much does our weight gain affect baby's gain?

I wish I was like some of you... so far i've gained 30lbs and I'm only 22wks6d. I believe it's all in my belly and some of my clothes still fit. I hope it's all water too so it can come off asap. It's hard because I was a very active person before conceiving and am now on restriction, guessing that's the reason for the rapid weight gain. At my appt last night found out baby only weighs 1lb 10oz so far (think he's big), but only time will tell. Just make sure you eat healthy and take your vitamins and lots of water Chat Icon

DS was 8 lbs 7 oz. I gained 48 lbs with him. Most of my weight was water weight. I had high blood pressure and was very swollen. I'm not sure there is a correlation?

i gained 16 lbs and DS weighed 8.7 at birth. MOST of that was baby.

Chat Icon as long as the baby is mearuring OK and growing at a normal pace, it really doesnt matter how much you gain - unless it is much more than recommened Chat Icon

eta - reread your OP and i think that baby's weight is close to mothers birth weight. at least, thats been my experience.

i was 8.3 at birth, DS was 8.7
my sister was 7.3 and her DD was 7.6

Re: Another question: how much does our weight gain affect baby's gain?

I think its more genetics than how much you gain.

My Brothers 1st DD was 9lbs 13oz.
2nd pregnancy my SIL only gained 16lbs. Her DS was early and over 9lbs.
Her 3rd was also over 9lbs.

Fast forward. I gained 50 lbs and DS was 9lbs 14oz.

I was 6lbs at birth but was 4 weeks early
DH was about 8lbs and I think roughly on time.

My family just makes big babies. Enough said.

We just had another growth sono and baby is measuring 7 lb 4 oz.

I was 8 lb 10 oz, and Dh was 10 lb 6 oz Chat Icon

They said the growth sono could go a pound in either direction. I am hoping to find out VERY soon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Another question: how much does our weight gain affect baby's gain?

At 39 weeks my baby girl was measuring 8lbs, 14 ozs YIKES! I am up 30 pounds at 40 weeks (average size/weight). My husband was a 10 pound premi (born at 36 weeks) and i was a full term 7lbs 8 oz baby.

I heard the sono measurments can be up to a pound and 1/2 off.

I really dont think it has anything to do with how much weight you gain unless you have GD. But i am not a doctorChat Icon
