Re: any experience? vitiligo
My sister has it as a result of celiac disease which is an autoimmune disorder. It hasn't progressed much since they figured it out that it was a result of celiac (allergy to gluten) but it's over a good part of her body. In addition to not eating anything with gluten in it, she had to stop using any cosmetics or personal products with gluten. And you'd be surprised at how many creams and shampoos have gluten in them. Good luck figuring it all out. I know how emotionally dibilitating it can be. for your son.

Re: any experience? vitiligo
I think the first step would be for him to have a blood test to determine the cause (I think it's a blood test for celiac). If it's celiac, here's some infor: Here's some info on celiac, support groups and the vitiligo connection: www.celiac.com – celiac info and support
http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/topic/22037-celiac-and-vitiligo/
http://celiacnetwork.com/celiac-support-groups/new-york-celiac-support-groups/long-island-celiac-support-groups/ Celiac support groups on LI
And, maybe it's not celiac but some topical fungus (I know that doesn't sound preferable but I do remember having a few white spots when I was younger and it was some sort of fungus from swimming all day).
People with celiac can get really sick the longer it goes undiagnosed so it's a good thing to find out and start making the changes because quality of life improves dramatically. I don't think my sister is on any meds but she does see a nutritionist, follows a strict GF diet and uses vitamin therapy.

Re: any experience? vitiligo
I have had vitiligo dots on my arm by my elbow since i was younger..I did notice a few dots on my legs this summer..barely noticable but I never thought to be tested for celiac. I will be bringing it up to my Dr. at my next visit.
