not getting much sleep

we have a 6 y/o bulldog who used to sleep in our bedroom, but we have moved her across the hall into the office cause she kept snoring so loudly that it was keeping us up. we keep both doors cracked so we can hear her, but lately she's been a terror at night.

now, besides the snoring, she rubs her butt on the carpet, rubs her back on the carpet (which makes her bump into the walls), shr runs down the stairs at crazy hours, etc... she never used to do this stuff in our bedroom, her only problem was the loud snoring. so now, every couple of hours, either me or my DH are up telling her to stop and it's making us exhausted.

we thought of putting her in her crate, but it's on the first floor (that's where she goes when we leave the house) and we don't want to have her on another floor.

any ideas on what we can do to make her stop and just sleep through the night (for us too!)?? Chat Icon

Can you keep the door closed to the room she sleeps in?

Re: not getting much sleep

does she usually rub all over the carpet like that? if not maybe she needs her anal glands squeezed? maybe her skin is really dry and itchy? is there a way to keep her in the other room so she can't run down the stairs? maybe a gate blocking them?

Maybe you can play with her right before bed so she can be tuckered out and that might stop the running up and down the stairs.

If shes rubbing her butt on the carpet it could be worms or she might need her anal glands squeezed.

Good luck, I hope you guys get some sleep soon.

Yup, your dog could have medical issues like skin allergies, parasites, infected anal glands. I'd get her to the vet first and also find out if she's overweight. I know with their short noses, they're prone to snoring but helping her get to a healthy weight could absolutely help.

I'd also ensure she's getting the proper exercise she needs to tire her out and confine her to one room during the night with a baby gate.

i should have added that she does have skin allergies and we're treating them. and we know her anal glands are swollen and my DH releases them every other day so she should be fine. bulldogs are prone to allergies, snoring, etc... but we just want her to sleep through the night so we can sleep!

i think we need to start walking her right after dinner or before bed to tire her out.
